Round 18 - CCM v Roar @ Gosford

Might as well forfeit every Roar fixture from now on. Just share a point each and save the travel expenses/ injuries/ cardings.

For whatever reason, Roar can’t beat the Jest, who can’t beat the Nix, who can’t beat CCM, who can’t beat the Roar. It’s the circle of life...

Is it any wonder games like tonight get 5k crowds with performances like that at home. Problem with this team is they play to the level of their opposition- so vs SFC they do great, but then against basket cases like the Roar and Nix at home they don’t look like winning.

Is anybody game to say they’ll beat WSW next weekend?

I’d rather see CCM miss the finals than make the finals and get knocked out by the Jest- but to see what this squad is capable of last week then not go for the kill against a Roar team at an all time low just makes me think what could be.

CCM may not be the worst team in the League, but they’re the dumbest for certain.
Love this post.

Reminded me of my golf. I relax and play well, get in a bit of trouble , the harder i try the worse I get. Real Jekyll and Hyde stuff.

If DDS could shoot he would be world class, but he just can't. I suppose something must be missing in his game.

I really do not know where we go from here.

This is no longer a salary capped league. When SFC can spend more on two Marquees than we spend on our entire squad and City get a special Timmy deal from the FFA the playing field is definitely not level.

I need to give it some thought before saying more but worry that the A-League will go the same as Scotland.

I find it difficult to understand where we fit in just now.

Very disheartened. I will watch a replay and comment on the game some time in the future and after some more thought make some hopefully sensible discussion about the Aleague and CCM.

Just feeling empty now.
Totally empathise with this post. So disheartening.

FTR, I can see another 2 wins this season...but against whom I'm not sure.

It seems to be a collective mentality in the team to over-think scoring opportunities. They make dumb decisions after doing all the right things to get in a good position to score. I put CCM above the Nix, Roar, Perth and WSW in terms of overall quality of football, not counting goal-scoring ability. Better in defence than those sides and can manage draws where those teams lose. Finish above them, and that's good enough for 6th in the joke of a finals series.

Roar will still finish below us, as will Perth and the Nix (unless one of those sides goes on a winning streak that I can't see). CCM will continue drawing enough games to creep past them.

I just hope it doesn't come down to needing a point against the Jest to qualify for the finals. Just give us a win against those pricks to finish up the season and play 'Horses' on full blast then watch them crash out of the finals and I'll call it an ok season...

It seems Okon has lost it.

We're not much better than last year and yet on paper, we have a much stronger squad. Tonight's effort, apart from very few rare glimpses, was horrible. Brisbane bossed us in pretty much every department, while we looked lethargic and lead-footed. Brisbane had us chasing shadows, while we looked like we were running through mud. Yet again there seems to be a distinct lake of desperation in our play. I think all the desperation is in the stands. Good goal by Powell with nice lead-up work. But not much else to celebrate. Brama was one of my favourites, but that 'tackle'...disgusting.

Absolutely no excuse for such a sub-par performance at home with so much at stake.

More of that and it's the spoon for us.

Sad to say but that was a pathetic effort.
F..king about at the back cost us again & we couldn`t even learn from our first mistake FFS.
I hate the Roar! They shit me no end.
Out of 50 games they`ve beaten us 28 times & we have only won 9.
So why play around at the back? especially when they outnumber us.
STOOPID,STOOPID,STOOPID!
And for good measure the screen is f..ked too!
Who in their right mind puts the teams & time clock on the bloody bottom of the screen. Jesus Christ!!

This team matches the level of whoever they're playing. If BK hadn't come off his line prematurely, it would've been a draw tonight.

I'm tipping a draw against WSW next weekend, unless we get dicked around like the last time against that lot. Winning will come down to luck, pure and simple.

The a league is f**ken lucky that Australia’s Timezone is way off the rest of the world. If we were in Europe everyone would just tune in to watch another countries league. The whole thing is a farce. Between Foxtel being shit and f**ken up numbers, ffa in general being useless, and the way the mariners are playing.

f**k.

Really tho. Anyone got suggestions on a nice foreign team/league to get behind. We could move our whole forum over to theirs and just forget it all. A fresh start.

Although our forum is probably better set up and managed.

Very, very glad I was at the Fooies tonight, at least they give a shit about their fans and give everything they have on stage. This team could learn some BIG lessons from them from the sound of it......

We gifted them two goals and so should not expect to win. Brama's red card should have been a red - though I thought they said the VAR cannot upgrade a card after the Brama/ McGing fiasco last time. Our whole effort looked lethargic

That said I found the refereeing to be almost as bad as our performance. Why do we always get the worst refs for our games? Jade North took out Lachie from behind (Speed calls it as a slip) and seconds later Corey Brown stepped in front of Appiah making no effort to play at the ball (clear obstruction anywhere else on the field). Both looked to be penalties. The result is within a minute the Roar go up the other end and score.

Appiah is through on goal in the 65th minute and taken down by Brown who got a yellow. Speed says Brown had to take him or he would have been through on goal, sounds like a red to me. Harper of course says there was plenty of work to do with the wind behind the ball totalling ignoring the fact that two slower Brisbane players quickly rounded up the ball with Appiah left on the ground.

Later Powell was taken out waiting for a high ball with the Brisbane player making no attempt at the ball. The high angle of the replay on Fox is inconclusive on this one but it was a clear foul from ground level.

I have not mentioned the Tommy foul when all he touched was the ball, Maccarone's dives or the 3 or 4 yard Holman offside (that surely would have been called back)

I'm not saying we deserved to win - we didn't - if you gift two goals to the opposition you can't pretend to claim that you do. But that refereeing performance was as substandard as our performance.

what happened to the VAR not being able to upgrade a yellow to a red?
So, once again, we got screwed over by the VAR blatantly doing the wrong thing?
Don't get me wrong, it should have been a red the first place, but that doesn't justify the VAR doing the wrong thing either.

This team matches the level of whoever they're playing. .
We've actually been doing that for the last 3-4 years. Play the comp leader, we'll play almost good enough to beat anybody but still lose.
Play somebody in the bottom third, we'd play in a manner that would see an U/14D team doing punishment laps after the game.

I missed the game, but I'm glad I did. Sounds like we've played exactly the same as we did for most of the season.
Looks like games like last week's are just an aberration rather than 'finally clicking'.
Seems like it isn't just our final third that's the problem.

Maybe it is the coaching.......(unpopular opinion)

2nd unpopular opinion - I'd rather not make the six.
If we make the six then we get to glorify our improvement and make it seem like everything is okay. The top 6 is the minimum benchmark - because for some stupid reason, the fFA think that we should celebrate mediocrity by ensuring that most of the league gets to pretend they're one of the best teams in the comp by playing in the finals.

(F*** me I hate the FFA, how can this organisation be so incompetent?)

We don't make the finals and maybe we can recognise the crisis this club is truly in.

The flip side is that we don't make the finals and maybe Mike loses all motivation to invest more money in the club and we stay in crisis.

3rd Unpopular opinion
#OkonOut
I don't think we can keep blaming the financial differences (although it's clear that the MArquee rules are making the salary cap pointless. If you have a salary cap and some clubs are spending double what others are, or more, then the cap doesn't work). We've shown what we CAN do. We just consistently don't. I can't imagine what that can possibly point to other than the coaching.

And let's be honest, Okon has been making terrible decisions week. After week. After week. After week. From subs, to starting lineup. To refusing to adapt to the game at hand. To fervently insistent that we don't need a Plan B.

The R.E.M. Song was funny.

What was with the people in the stands and even Brissy fans lighting up in solidarity?

(Also last home game what was the silent protest about?)

Style, we had to bend down to read the time from Bay 17.......they must have had the bloke that looks after the water pipes on the peninsula in charge of the screen.

They said "if it's an absolute howler from the Ref" they will use VAR to overturn.
