Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Songs 'N Chants

The trouble is .. so many people don't participate in the chants. There's a couple of (ahem) old blokes in front of me who just won't chant, respond, or do stuff. I guess we Australians just aren't a demonstrative mob. We're an understated, conservative lot. The band is absolutely great, appreciated even by the two (ahem) old blokes in front of me, but they don't clap, chant or do stuff. How do we change that? tifos in every bay? Maybe that would do it?

Part of the problem before game time is that the PA absolutely overpowers the YA. Can't help that. But it would be great if we could get more crowd participation during the game.

It hasn't been that long since my last rant about people thinking 'active support = hooliganism' so I'll refrain from that, especially as I'm not sure how to change it other than trying to be role models, so-to-speak.
One thing that I noted at the Brisbane game though, was that the Fox camera guys were doing runs up and down the pitch, along the Western Stand, trying to get shots of a revved up crowd, and doing a fairly good job up getting them moving. A bit further down in front of me, right behind our bench too, was a small group of fans in their early twenties - I think. They were decked out in blue-yellow etc, but blankly refused to get up... They were quite happy to just sit there with their feet on the fence.
I have to admit that I was a bit disappointed and my immediate thinking on seeing that was 'what chance do we stand if we can't even get, what seems to be relative die-hards, to get up for the occasional camera run?'.
It's hard to engage an audience that outright refuses to be engaged, rather than just being coy.

Yeah, my SO has commented on this a couple of times. She gets a bit annoyed at having 'Welcome to the Jungle' blaring at the same time as the brass band is blaring out Tetris... I can sort of follow, there's a fine line between engaged, organised chaos and pure outright chaos.
Might it be worth going quiet once they've lined up, then using the whistle as a cue for cheering, leading into a chant? :D

On a positive note, it feels like the crowd has been engaging just a bit more, in the last couple of games. Getting the clap along on a couple of chants now and on a rare occasion you'll even get a couple of people try to join in on some of the simpler, more common chants.

Great to hear from you Fruitbat.

Good idea and a very easy tune but maybe just a bit too cringe worthy (or gay as my kids would say).

Suggestions to start the debate over our run on song ... given Shaun is after our thoughts... Maybe this should be a new thread so everyone can see it and know what its about...

Love me Tender by Elvis our current song … has never grabbed me.

None of these grab me but I have heard suggested over the years…

Yellow … Coldplay

Yellow Submarine .. Beatles

Sailing … Rod Stewart

You Can’t Stop the Music / replace with Mariners … Village People

Love the Urawa Reds version of Sailing …

This is a good fit for me, modern (relevant with the new supporters we are trying to attract) uplifting chorus ( pump up the crowd and the boys) and a good message to go with the direction of the club - welcome to the new age!

Weird film clip though, not sure about the muppets!

I like Rose Tattoo -- We Can't Be Beaten.

I Like the Song and the sentiments, such an "Angry" song ;)

These are the complete words, long, and where would it be shortened and "Mariners" and Yellow" be inserted? But as a beat up song before the game or at half time .. greeaaattt stuff !

Rose Tattoo – We Can' Be Beaten Lyrics
Oh yeah, yeah...yeah
If you want to be in my gang, stake out with me
We'll start a revolution and make the streets free
We'll never weaken, we'll give it our best
Can't be defeated, we're better than the rest
Shoulder to shoulder, we're gonna stand
We're gonna fight till the very last man
Can't be defeated, don't know the word
Shoulder to shoulder, we'll fight the world
We can't be beaten
What do we tell 'em, boys - we can't be beaten
There comes a time when every man must fight
When he believes in justice and right
He'll take so much till he'll take no more
They'll hear us comin' when they hear the mighty roar
Shoulder to shoulder, we're gonna stand
We're gonna fight till the very last man
Can't be defeated, don't know the word
Shoulder to shoulder, we'll fight the world
We can't be beaten
Let me hear ya - we can't be beaten
Sing it out loud - we can't be beaten
We'll tell the wor-orld - we can't be beaten
Now listen, everybody out there in ?...........? - we can't be beaten
You've got to realise that you're the real people - we can't be beaten
We can rule the streets - we can't be beaten
It's just up to you and me - we can't be beaten - oh
Can't be defeated, don't know the word
Shoulder to shoulder, we'll fight the wor-orld
'Cause, we can't be beaten, hey-hey, we can't be beaten
You've gotta believe it, we can't be beaten
They'll soon find out, we can't be beaten
No, we can't be beaten, we can't be beaten [fade]

Why can`t we help that?
An approach to the club to give the YA some pre match time instead of the inane dribble that goes on would be welcomed by many fans & the kids.

Expectations for participation should be kept realistic, I would be happy if the crowd would just stfu during the team announcement and actually applaud their players when announced. Stop bagging the team during the game and stop yelling "go forward" constantly when we are keeping possession would also be appreciated.

Amen.
& if I had a $ for every obligatory ....... 'Just Kick-IT !!!' I've heard from 'un-educated' (just passionate) Mariners Fans over the last 10 seasons I'd have a 25% share in the club.

Since the whole walk out song thing has kicked off lately and there's plenty of ideas being thrown around I guess it's a good time to clear something up.
Before the start of last season the brass band had written an awesome game of thrones themed song that was played a few times before home games early on but never really caught on,mostly lack of communication etc about what was happening.I remember the OSC doing a poll of sorts last season to get interest but nothing came of it.For this sort of thing, polls are useless imo.Say it gets down to 2 songs and the vote is 51% to 49%.You've got half a stadium not liking it.It won't work.
For somethhing like this to work it HAS to start from active support.A couple of weeks ago Prior, shaun,Darren (band leader) and myself met and discussed the walk out song and decided the Game of thrones theme one was best.People seem to be under the assumption that the title needs to have "yellow" in it....if I see some body suggest "Yellow" by Coldplay one more time I will snap. That song is more likely to put the boys to sleep rather then pump them up.
WE were hoping to get a bunch of fans together and record it by now but other commitments have gotten in the way of that, but it will happen at some stage.
For those that don't know, the FFA are forcing all clubs to have a walkout song this season. The idea is though we won't have to play a recording of it at home because we obviously have the band. The recording will probably be mostly used for people to learn it and for example when we play a "home" game away like Geelong.
As I said, the FFA Are forcing this on clubs this season so a decision had to be made.Hopefully even if it's not completely to peoples liking they can get behind it.
Also, this is a song with lyrics written by fans which I think adds a good touch to it.
