So to summarise we could possibly lose

Doig - can't be happy with a bench spot and would get a starting gig elsewhere
Sainsbury - off to the Blades
Hutch - maybe back to Victoria
McBreen - talking to Perth
Mrdja - retiring??
JVS - ??? the Pasfield signing raises questions of his ability to come back

Matt Ryan going somewhere makes sense, according to the other thread he is signed for another two seasons after this, so there is your long term contract, and we have already signed pasfield, so I guess this theory depends on weather we keep van stratten or not cause we wouldn't have 3 keepers who all are starting level a-league keepers for nothing

Stupid comment - every time Pedj has been missing we have missed not having Porter available. Decent pace, excellent crosser of a ball, would have been good to see him work with McGlinchey. Much more consistent crosser than Bojic, much better crosser than Sainsbury. Arnie has talked about the delivery into the box and Porter is better than both Bojic and Sainsbury. And the defence would not have been unbalanced by shifting Wilko to RB.

Gotta love the transfer window! all these rumours of people going - not many of who might be coming in though :). Arnie needs a couple of players to move on to enable him to complete his rebuilding of the side. Doig should go, he's capable of regular foottball somewhere (hasn't been injured this year either...) Hutch is struggling with the new playing requirements, not quick enough for our new midfield, I reckon he'd make a good player coach somewhere, and boy, we don't need him to tie down a spot with his long term contract. McBreen? Only three goals says we aren't getting our money's worth but I'd be pleasantly surprised if someone else wanted him but Perth can have him if they want. We don't have many players who can command a decent fee overseas - I hope it isn't Amini or Rose.

I'm happy to let McBreen go...
Simon and Kwasnik seem both capable of playing just as good (if not better) off the bench, beiong a good candidate for an ;impact player'.
UIt's not particularly anything McBreen can help...Target men are rarely good impact players. I just think it's a waste to have a target man on the bench.
Either start him, or send him on his way!

Sorry - missed that - when did that happen??

It hasn't officially happened yet but that's what my mate told me. Also, Arnie said "one of the young boys" was off to Sheffield, and if you remember at the start of the season they wanted to buy Sainsbury when he was training with them. All checks out.

Not to sure if Sheffield is the best move for him ... would rather he stayed at home and forced his way into our run on side... maybe a bigger club or a loan deal ....

Pretty sure, though it is a little confusing, that this is what Mick is referring to earlier in the thread as no longer taking place.

On another note, Arnie has said in his most recent interview he is looking at bringing in a second player before the end of the month to help strengthen the squad. And referenced how all the other teams around us are strengthening there squads!

Are we really going to get two new players in one January transfer window?
This is still the Mariners right?

Have to say, I'm developing some pretty serious love for this season, our current squad and GA!
:D

Right. Bloody hell. lol. I'm getting lost in this stuff.

So apart form the old talk about his trip to SHUTD, where are the current Sainsbury to Sheffield rumours coming from?

So in summary if I have this right...

We've signed Baird (I think even I've got that down :))
Arnie is still looking at brining in another player by the end of the month.
It looks like Mc Breen's leaving. Perhaps going to Perth you would think?
Another young player, who had a decent length contract with us, was leaving... but the deal has now fallen through so presumably he's staying?

Anyhow Weemac was coming off contract and we are apparently in talks, so for the "clues" that should have ruled him out. Then you'd be hoping Ollie is not so keen to rush straight off after a less than fruitful endeavour just gone - and he's doing well and even been getting some NT attention...

So young with a contract beyond this season with us... be thinking maybe it was Amini, Ryan or maybe even Matty Lewis?? He's a great young player imo, who with Ollie in front of him looking for a move would make sense...

All correct except for the last point. I never said that player was young.

Add to that the possibility of another player moving on (not talking about Mrdja) and the possible Sainsbury situation and that is a fair summary.

Arnie is certainly freeing up cap space but you would also think that McGlinchey, Bojic and the impending Wilkinson re-signing would all be on upgraded contracts for next season shrinking cap space..

Despite this it would point to one or two quality players being added to the squad this January. Arnie didn't have time to move around preseason too much but he is certainly exerting his influence now.

Is making for a very busy and interesting January.
