Reading a few websites it seems he has a good work attitude but has been held back in recent years by a series of injuries. I have nothing against taking a punt on a player from a lower league but, as always, it is a punt. If he scores four goals he will be a winner...and who knows, maybe he will win the A League's Golden Boot.

It is a gamble to take, he may work out gold or he may be shite. If we are gambling we should give 1 year contracts with an option, so if they are rubbish we don't get stuck and restricted for a second year (Sim…..)

I dont think you can compare a player that played in the EPL with a NSW state league player. I expect him to go well.

The boy has played Under 21 and B Level for Ireland.
Most Irish players have a bit of mongrel and i'm expecting his skill level to be high.
His CV is probably better that WeeMacs and we all know how good he turned out to be.
Welcome to the Coast Roy!!

While I agree that he isn't quite as much of a risk as a New South Wales State League player he still is quite a big risk. The S-League (Singaporean League) could easily be argued to be at the same level as the Australian State Leagues or even below. In regards to the Indonesian Premier League I believe it would be slightly above the standard of the State League's in Australia.

Yes he does have pedigree but he also has quite a few failed attempts at levels some would argue are below the A-League. Personally I believe his potential completely out weighs the potential cost of his failure. I also highly doubt he is on much considering the exit from his last club was rushed to say the least. Overall I'd say a signing with great potential and I now know who'll I have on the back of my first Mariners' kit!

Agree here, but the CCM email said he would be on a 2 year contract, not a 1 + 1 ?

If he's quick and does plenty of movement, he may pull the double/triple teaming off guys like Fabio & Cac, thereby allowing them to do the damage. Don't care who does the scoring as long as someone up the pointy end does.

He doesn't grab headlines but he's a pretty solid player IMO. Happy to have him....at the right price, I wouldn't break the bank to sign him.

Not sure style.

I remember watching our NYL team play Sydney one time at Seymour Shaw - one Ahmad Elrich was playing up at the pointy end, finding lots of space and using his pace.

Sydney simply left him in space, because 80% of the time when he got the ball they got it straight away. He was more effective at giving Sydney possessions than their 6 and 8.

I just hope ROD is good enough that opponents can't simply ignore him and focus on our actual threats...

More worried about delivery to him than his abilities.
We were never splashing on anything more.
Wonder if we go another striker from Everton or they consider the position filled.

Strong rumours of a current EPL first eleven striker being signed as the Mariners marquee. Club close to getting the funds from an Asian sponsor

ROD does not fit this description so I am still living in hope that there is more to come in this area. Developer believed to be Chinese property developer Haisheng that was behind the ACL sponsorship.

The only out of contract players in the EPL that match that description are Peter Crouch and Bobby Zamora with Peter Crouch apparently being targeted by the Newcastle Jets http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sp...ker-peter-crouch/story-fnp0lxay-1227309808632
Although that was before the FFA seized control of the Jets.

Speaking of guys up the pointy end, Kaluderovic has left Roar. He got 7 from 16 games, which doesn't seem too bad. Wonder if he wants to stay in Australia.
Surprised this hasn't generated more discussion. This guy would be well worth signing, he is a proven scorer.
Funny that Aloisi is letting him go.

Roy O'Donovan has a cv that is very similar to another player who has done pretty well in the A-League. Andy Keogh. If we get as much out of Roy then he'll be a great signing.

Thought I might start a new thread for this because there doesn't seem to be a space for it at the moment, anyways.

According to Four Four Two we've been linked to Iacopo La Rocca:
"Iacopo La Rocca, one of 10 released by the Wanderers in a mass cull, may be replacing John Hutchinson as bruiser-in-chief at the Mariners."http://www.fourfourtwo.com/au/news/transfer-rumours-milligan-juric-moves
At the right price would be a good signing. Would be battling it out with Liam Rose if he came for a starting place though.
