Two signing are imminent by the end of the week.

http://mobile.news.com.au/sport/foo...-in-north-sydney/story-fnk9blyx-1227371757904

THE Mariners have drawn a line under their flirtation with playing games in North Sydney, with the club’s new CEO pledging there will be 13 home fixtures at Central Coast Stadium next season.

Flagging two new signings within the week, CEO Shaun Mielekamp said the club’s future depended on reconnecting with the Central Coast region, after Mariners’ on-and-off-field struggles of the past year.

Part of that is an apparent end to owner Mike Charlesworth’s efforts to shift games to North Sydney Oval and Brookvale, with the club about to cement its relationship with Gosford Council and recommit to its home ground at the city’s Brisbane Water.

Mielekamp, who arrived at the club recently after nearly three years at the Wanderers, has already held a series of meetings with the club’s supporter base as the Mariners bid to win back the community engagement that characterised the club’s first few years.

Now the Mariners hope that a commitment to playing at Central Coast Stadium will expedite that process, and counter disillusionment from the forays into northern Sydney last year.

“It’s something we’re very passionate about committing to — just as the palm trees are not leaving Gosford, neither are we,” he said. “Next season we will definitely play 13 home games there, and we’re not far away from announcing a new partnership with the council to underpin that.

“There will be a 14th round that’s technically a home game and we’re working with FFA on that as a community round. That will be a game we take to a region to help grow the sport there, and once we have the draw next month we can confirm where that will be.

“My role in these first few weeks has been to listen to the members, and start planning how to deliver what they want.”

Mielekamp said new head coach Tony Walmsley hoped to lock in two new players by the end of the week, though he admitted that overall the club was working to a limited budget.

“The squad size is something of a moving figure at the moment as we’re in talks with players and hopefully we’ll have news on that very soon,” he said. “We think they will show that there’s some exciting things ahead for us.

“But the financial and commercial reality is that we can’t fall into the trap of spending money before we’ve earned it. The long-term future of the club depends on our ability to engage with the community and to maximise revenue and of course hopefully be successful.

“For instance we’re in the market for a front-of-shirt away sponsor, who we want to be a national partner to highlight the growth there is on the Coast. Equally I’ve been astounded at the level of community interaction, in terms of player appearances and in terms of the testimonial game for John Hutchinson last week.

“I’m not sure any other sporting club in Australia could have created the context for an event like that, which just shows how much the club means to people here.”
2 new signings alongside the quote “But the financial and commercial reality is that we can’t fall into the trap of spending money before we’ve earned it." doesn't suggest big names or EPL...
as long as they're good signings I don't really care though. just like to win some games this season hey!

I'm thinking it might be Roy O'Donovon and Mitch Austin. Players who have talent but have been injured and/or loaned around a bit and will be cheap. At a club like ours , some TLC and sea air hopefully we can get the best out of them. Here's hoping. Of course if it's Crouch and Zamora i won't complain........

With Danny being released from Perth to be close to 'our parents' because his wife Kristy is expecting their first child can anyone confirm that she is a Coast girl. She was his girlfriend when he was here, but I believe he and his family are from Western Sydney.

. danny is a westie i believe (i seem to remember his missus referring to watching danny play pre-HAL ... so is likely a westie too)

. his parents were at hutch's testimonial match the other day (so i'd guess 'we' are close to 'home')

Surprised. Thought he would go to WSW as the main reason for leaving Perth was to be closer to family? Would be an asset anywhere he goes. As much as i rate Danny, we don't need him and couldn't afford 2 quality keepers.

Mate, I hope you're right. This could be one of those occasions when only the inner sanctum know… and those that do know have been sworn to secrecy with the threat of castration hanging over them if they spill the beans.
I thought castration was "spilling the beans"

Oh well, looks like we are getting Roy O'Donovan. Yay we are getting a striker that can't score goals.

Following a turbulent spell in Indonesia with Mitra Kukar, Roy O’Donovan is set to pen to paper on a deal with Australian A-League side Central Coast Mariners later today, The Emerald Exiles can exclusively reveal.

persis-mitra-kukar-7.jpg

O’DONOVAN: Pictured in a rare appearance for Mitra Kukar

The former Cork City, Sunderland and Brunei DPMM striker will sign a two-year-deal with CCM later on Friday after negotiating a deal to be released from his contract at Mitra – after the Indonesian domestic season was thrown into turmoil and suspended indefinitely.

After originally being postponed for a week, and then put off for a lengthier period of time, the Irishman was left in limbo in Tenggarong. First given a week off, then put back on a six week pre-season period, the proposed date for restart of the league was then delayed indefinitely.

The reasons behind the postponement is believed to be the Indonesian FA’s crackdown on club licensing laws, but FIFA have threatened the countries removal from their competitions should he farce continue.

In total, O’Donovan played one league for Mitra – amidst all the delays – and scored no competitive goals. Two league games were played after the first delay, but after the club forgot to register the Corkman’s international clearance – as well as the clearance for two other foreign imports – he missed that season opener.

It was the latest in a long line of administrative blunders, so often the norm in Asia. Scott Cooper, the English coach responsible for taking O’Donovan to Indonesia, resigned back in April. Last month, O’Donovan ‘resigned’ from the club too, turning to FIFA for advice on his next move – as exclusively revealed by The Emerald Exiles.

Speaking to the Irish Daily Star, the 29-year-old said, “Every day there seemed to be some sort of administration problem. “After two-and-a-half months of nonsense with delays in the league we got to the night before the first game. Over here you are only allowed three foreign players in a team. There’s myself and two Spanish players — lads who have played in La Liga.

“Anyway, the night before the game the three of us were told that they forgot to get our international clearance,” he continued. “They actually forgot! We couldn’t play. That will give you a taster of the nonsense there.”

Now looking for a clean break in New South Wales, O’Donovan lands in Australia after very differing spells in Brunei and then Indonesia. The striker’s considerable impact at DPMM arguably marked the finest personal season in his career and despite his latest setback, the striker was in no rush to return to Britain or Ireland.

“If I went with my gut feeling I would have come home within three days. I just didn’t get the right vibes from the off. It was clear there were problems looming.”

After leaving Brunei last year, O’Donovan had been linked to a move to A-League side Central Coast Mariners, but chose to leave for Indonesia instead. Now, the ex-Republic of Ireland Under 21 man will get a chance to test himself in the A-League.

Last season, Andy Keogh scored 16 goals in all competitions for Perth Glory while other ex-Ireland internationals Damien Duff and Liam Miller also turned out in Australia’s top flight last term – at Melbourne City and Brisbane Roar.

CCM finished eighth in the ten team league last term but scored just 26 goals in 27 games along the way, meaning there may be considerable onus on O’Donovan to fire them up the table in 2015/16.

Oh well, looks like we are getting Roy O'Donovan.

Confirmed:
The Central Coast Mariners have bolstered their attacking stocks for the Hyundai A-League 2015/16 Season with former English Premier League striker Roy O’Donovan joining the yellow and navy on a two-year deal.
The 29-year-old Irishman played under Roy Keane at Sunderland before spells with Coventry City and Northampton Town amongst other U.K. based outfits.

Before joining Keane’s ‘Black Cats’ in the English Premier League, the under-21s Republic of Ireland International broke onto the professional football scene in his hometown with Cork City to rack up an impressive goalscoring record across three seasons, which included a League of Ireland Championship in 2005.

O’Donovan’s impressive run of form earned him a call up to the English Premier League with Sunderland which broke the League of Ireland's record for highest transfer fee in 2007 that also saw the in form striker knock back an offer from Fulham.

The former Blackpool attacker's most recent goalscoring spree was with Brunei DPMM FC in Singapore’s S.League where he managed to bag an impressive 15 goals in 24 league appearances throughout the 2014 campaign as the club's marquee player under former Blackburn Rovers boss Steve Kean.

O’Donovan is raring for round one of the Hyundai A-League and spoke very highly of Australian football.

“I’m very excited and looking forward to playing in the A-League and representing the Central Coast Mariners, I was up there last week and it’s a beautiful place and looks like a terrific place to play football,” O’Donovan said.

“It’s [The Hyundai A-League] a well respected league and it’s a league that I’ve always felt that I wanted to be a part of and I’m now very proud to say that I am a Central Coast Mariners player.

“Playing with Sunderland has been one of the highlights of my career. Roy Keane was an idol of mine growing up and it was terrific to play under him and to play at that level of football was an incredible learning curve for me.

“I’m hungry to do well at the Central Coast Mariners. I consider myself a number nine, I like to play off the shoulder of the last defender and being a nuisance to central defenders and hopefully a goalscorer,” O’Donovan said.

The Central Coast bound striker will join his Mariners team mates in early July for a full pre-season under Tony Walmsley who noted his newest striker as a major off-season coup.

“Roy comes with outstanding references from top managers in the UK including Roy Keane,” Walmsley said. “He is a very humble and genuine character who will fit our community club profile,” he said.

“To have a striker join the Mariners with an identified work ethic who is also a proven goal scorer with natural pace and speed of thought is very exciting. The type of striker Roy is, will give our attacking midfielders room to operate with his good forward runs.

“With our ability to get service in from both flanks and our creativity in midfield I’m expecting a high return from Roy this season,” Walmsley said.

It is a gamble to take, he may work out gold or he may be shite. If we are gambling we should give 1 year contracts with an option, so if they are rubbish we don't get stuck and restricted for a second year (Sim…..)

Looking at the YouTube videos, at least he seems to be able to head goals, and knows where the sticks are, runs at the defence, and is prepared to shoot. That's a combination that is a bonus after much of last year.

Looks and interesting type, performed well at low levels in recent times which hopefully means he can build up towards the level in the A-League which he has performed at before. Anyone seen him play when he was in England?
