FFA Cup 2015 - Mariners game

Decent crowd.

Didn't see any of the game except for the missed penalty. What is it with us and penalties?

Disappointing.
I agree that the penalty and the result was disappointing the way we played however was not. Wellington couldn't win the midfield battle (even when they put an extra player in there!) and we really only lost because of an error that won't happen with time. I think we can and really only should take positives out of this game, possession style game plans (which Tony Walmsley seems to be going for) take time and have teething problems, I can only seeing us getting better from here. Overall I'm actually heartened for the season ahead despite the loss.

Agree with most of you guys on the way the game panned out last night.
Just a few observations to add:
1. Every time we get a half decent crowd we lose. (Frustrating for everyone)
2. I Think Our "Band" would have gotten us over the line last night. (Crowd were itching for a singalong - worth a goal IMO)
3. I can see where Monty will be playing but he's not as young as Jedinak & will fade towards end of each game.
4. The first 15 min for me showed what we are capable of (we completely dominated) A goal here would have changed the game.
5. I saw enough last night to may me confident regarding our club. Bring It On.

This is my thinking exactly

Had a bit of a think on the game... the backs played reasonably we got killed in the midfield most of the night and gave away a lot of easy ball...

Fitzy had a very poor game, Cáceres seemed to be playing a wide mid position and he just seemed lost all night and by his standards had a very poor game...

Lots and lots of work to do...

As an aside good work by the club they got over 6 k, looked more to me with young kids everywhere.

The band and the Home End missing last night does anyone know why.

It took me longer to get out of CCLC car park than it did to get home to Woy Woy. :p One of the joys of living on the Coast.

Caceres seems to be getting unanomously smashed by most on here, he did have a pretty poor game, created very little....I can't remember a game where he has dominated, apart from that awesome goal on debut against Newcastle...what else has he done?

Not trying to be rude, but he is our go to young Number 10, previously held by Amini and Rogic...

I think Caceres will shine if he has a midfield partner that has a more dominant personality. He's not a leader, too quiet, so I can't see him dominating that role. To be fair, Rogic wasn't really either, but he had more skill at pulling off the sublime. Amini had more drive than both.

Can Cas get there? Sure, he has all the tools, but it'll require a mental leap. It can happen this year, he just needs to grow into a bigger personality.

The team played good in patches the cohesion isn't thier yet we were often streched in midfield and not compact enough going forward alot of the passes going astray or handing over possession to easily Fitzy needs to be bit more selfish and have a dig finds himself in good positions but opts out of shooting Caceres needs to be more aggressive he needs to dominate the midfield unfamiliar with the new stock some showed some good promise.

I like it when we are awarded a penalty: it means a guaranteed 20% chance of a goal, much higher than any other passage of play.

I'm not going to cut O'Donovan any slack at all. If he's going to play like that, welded to the two central defenders and letting them win every header, then I want at least a double, preferably a hattrick, within the first 3 rounds.
Obviously after last season it's nice just to have a recognised striker, but I'm not going to tolerate a faded EPL journeyman who never defends and complains of a lack of service.
That penalty was a bad sign.

I don't park there any more. I park somewhere up near the old MarketTown. The walk is (ahem) good exercise and in the end it takes less time than waiting to get out of the CCLC car park. The other thing I don't do is to go into Mann St. at all because of the traffic blockages at the little roundabout Mann St. and Georgiana Tce. :-|

I enjoyed going to the footy again, it was great to watch the team on the park. Boy, weren't there some families with school age kids there! Good onya Coasties for going along. :overheadl: Keep it up. :)

I'm happy to give a few players the grace of time to prove themselves or not. Both Matt Ryan and Trent Sainsbury would never have played for us if we shot them for their first game/s with us

I loved the O'Donavan chant (to the tune of the muppets theme) that was done a few times in bay 16 last night & I recon it could catch on but sadly no band:( & no tetris:(.
