DESPITE calls for his sacking on social media, Mariners coach Phil Moss said he was “going nowhere’’ ahead of the club’s must-win home match against Melbourne City on Sunday.

With the team all but out of the finals race, some supporters are taking their frustration out on Moss, urging the club to end his time as head coach.

The Mariners have had great success during the 10 years of the A-League, but this campaign has been a bitter disappointment and a place in the finals is highly unlikely.

Mariners executive vice chairman Peter Storrie is the man charged with overseeing the restructure of the club.

He said on Wednesday he was “looking at the whole club’’ and could not comment further on the head coach position at this stage.

Technical director Tony Walmsley has already met with Moss and said he was looking forward to “working with Phil’’ to help get the club back to the top of the A-League. “I’m excited and optimistic we can turn things around,’’ Walmsley said.

Moss has not seen the social media storm surrounding his future. He has had a busy week preparing for the City match at Gosford.

He confirmed his desire to see out the remaining two years of his contract.

“I’m not a quitter, never have been,’’ he said. “I never run from a fight. I’ve fallen in love with the Central Coast. I love the community and the people.’’

Moss was also feeling heat this week after not playing skipper John Hutchinson for what would have been a record-equalling match for the veteran in last week’s draw against the Jets.

Asked whether Hutchinson would feature on Sunday at Central Coast Stadium Moss said: “He wants to play, but he knows my responsibility is picking a team I think will win every game we play.

“He is in calculations like every week. I’ve known him for a long time and, like everyone, I want him to go out on a good note.’’

Of course he isn't going to go. Better to wait and be sacked so you get a payout.

The problem is that the evidence appears to have changed but the conclusion hasn't.

Moss was f**ked before because he was picking Hutch, now he's f**ked because he's not picking Hutch.

If you would all make up your minds it would be easier to take you seriously.

besides not having a coherent plan .
it's his ability to pick horses for courses . if you had Attila the hun .you'd have played him against scumcastle.
against the chinese that aren't as physical as a-league sides you leave triffero on the bench till you've already lost .

no matter how you spin it . he's been poor .

I believe Mossy was picking Hutch and now he is told not to start him. Mossy is then making an in game call for the sub. Imo

When did he suddenly decide Hutcho was not up to standard? It's just another example of his flakey coaching.

Five minutes after it was announced that Hutch was retiring after this season. If you note, once that was announced he started giving Rose more game time... It also happened to coincide with Walmsley being announted....
I understand - to some extend - people not agreeing with, or liking, his decision making. But I struggle to understand why, the people who have accused him of everything from cronyism to outright inability to coach are now upset with him for not playing a player, purely in order for that player to set a record, largely unrelated to the team performance.

EDIT: PLUS We don't know how they went in training...

Am I the only one who thinks too much is being made of a personal milestone?
Whoever the coach is, the squad should be picked on winning the game and not some fleeting personal record.
These things are great if they happen naturally but the team and results come first.

#MossIsOut:

Central Coast Mariners can today confirm that Head Coach Phil Moss has been stood aside, effective immediately. The Mariners are in negotiations with Moss in regards to his position and wish him all the best for his future endeavours in football.
Stepping in as interim Head Coach for the remainder of the Hyundai A-League 2014/15 campaign will be Central Coast Mariners newly appointed Technical Director, Tony Walmsley. The club will soon commence the search for a new permanent Head Coach with Walmsley to remain as the club’s Technical Director.

The decision is part of stage two of Executive Vice Chairman Peter Storrie’s restructure that will also see Hyundai A-League Assistant Coach Wayne O’Sullivan offered a new role at the club.

Stepping into a player/coach role will be Central Coast Mariners club Captain, John Hutchinson who will take on the dual-position until the end of his final campaign as a player. The specifics of Hutchinson’s coaching contract are yet to be finalised but fans, media and members can be rest assured that the club captain will remain with the Mariners in a coaching capacity beyond this season.

The next phase of the Central Coast Mariners restructure will also include a fresh look at the operation of youth football that will be made evident in the near future with further statements.

The club respectfully declines to make any further comment regarding the Phil Moss matter and is sure that his career in football will continue elsewhere.

So I assume we go straight on to #WalmsleyOut in a couple of weeks when the team doesn't suddenly turn into Athletico Central Coast?

Good to see though, that they're looking at a role for Hutch, presumably assistant coach to whoever will be our head coach in the future. Let's hope they have more sense than taking him straight from a playing role into a 'senior' coaching role for the NYL or some such animal.

Well... Onward and upward, at least I assume that there'll be less abuse hurled at the team on Saturday, that's a nice start. Let's hope Walmsley can replicate his NYL results with the Senior team.

In the meantime, for all of everything thank you very much for your service Mossy, it has been greatly appreciated, even if frustrating at times.

I do hope Moss has some future with the club in some capacity, just not as Head Coach. Hutch should not be rushed into coaching at a high level, needs to start low. Wouldn't want to see another Patrick Zwaanswijk happen. I really liked Pat.

ah i truly feel sorry for Mossy, that's gotta hurt some. there's a tonne behind the scenes we'll never know about, including if there was anything to the rumours of him not getting to 100% pick his own squads.

Good luck Mossy - all the best for the future.

Ultimately though things weren't working out for whatever reason and hopefully this new direction means great things once again for the club

I hope he has learnt from his experience IMO he had two short comings... first was recruitment and second was getting across his way of playing.... both can be improved and I hope he stays in Football and maybe like Crookie and the guy from Brisbane maybe his role is as a genuine assistant coach...
