Troisi Part of Trio Released by Newcastle

Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan has decided to release former Ireland international Stephen Carr at the end of the season.

Carr will join James Troisi and Peter Ramage in leaving St James' Park in the summer as Keegan begins to put his own imprint on the squad he inherited from Sam Allardyce earlier this season.

Ramage, 24, was offered the chance to stay with his hometown club but has opted to pursue regular first-team football elsewhere.

Carr arrived in 2004 from Tottenham having earned a reputation as one of the best full-backs in England and had previously been linked with Manchester United.

But a series of injuries hampered his progress and he must now find alternative employment in the summer after 107 matches in four seasons at Newcastle.

'We wanted to keep Rammy (Ramage) but he wants to play regular football and I couldn't guarantee that here,' Keegan told the club's website, www.nufc.co.uk.

'He goes with our best wishes, as does Stephen Carr, who has been a great pro for this club. He wasn't offered a contract and I explained the reasons why.'

Troisi made it as far as the bench but never made a full debut for the club.

'James has also gone. He has gone to play for Australia at the Olympics but he has not been offered a contract,' Keegan added.

interesting...
1) how stupid are Newcastle? 19 years of age...i cant believe it
2) Roda JC were fater him a few months back so they might swoop. IMO he will go to championship or Dutch Eridivisie.
3) Now all the people on here are gonna say...Let's sign Troisi....which if he wanted to come would be great but I must remind everyone he wouldnt consider HAL!!!

With such talent, he is too young to come over to Australia at the moment.
Great player..hopefully we'll see him in the A-League one day.

Rising Star ... Djite 'would only get better' with FC Twente.

Wilkshire backs Djite's Dutch aim

May 07, 2008 AUSTRALIA international Luke Wilkshire wants Adelaide United striker Bruce Djite to join him on a looming UEFA Champions League journey with Dutch club FC Twente.

Wilkshire supports Djite's projected switch to the progressive Dutch outfit, which is threatening to break the dominance of established titans Ajax, Feyenoord and PSV Eindhoven.

"I have heard a rumour about it and if he has the opportunity it would be a great move for him," the former Middlesbrough midfielder said of Djite, who covets a move to Europe.

Wilkshire said that FC Twente represented the perfect club for Djite to join, as it would allow the striker to develop as he had done in "two great seasons" since switching from then English League One side Bristol City.

"It is a good club, a friendly club, they give the young boys their chance and for sure he would only get better here," said Wilkshire, who will return home this month for Australia's friendly against Ghana and World Cup qualifiers in June.

"He would be training with good coaches, improving even just on the training field."

Wilkshire, 26, is confident that FC Twente can topple heavyweight Ajax over a two-leg final on May 10 and 18 for a berth in next season's UEFA Champions League

"Obviously we have two big games coming up which will be a big opportunity to get in the Champions League," he said.

"At the start of the season everyone was aiming for a UEFA Cup place which we secured while the Champions League would be a bit of a bonus for the club.

"Head to head we drew 2-2 and beat them 2-1 at home this season.

"Over the last couple of years, Twente has been right up there amongst it - and this is an opportunity to break the mould."

Wilkshire switched to Twente in search of quality game time on the advice of former Socceroos coach Guus Hiddink after an impressive 2006 World Cup.

"I have improved playing at a higher level week in week out, reading the game and defensively," said Wilkshire, negotiating an extension to his two-year deal with the Tukkers.

Playing five games in his rest period "excites" rather than fazes the 23-game Socceroos player, saying: "It's been quite a while since I have had a free summer but that is part and parcel of international football. When you have something to aim for it keeps you going."

Like any young player, he needs to be playing regular football.

Going to Holland (the country as opposed to the scum turncoat) or UK doesnt really matter as long as he gets competitive game time.

Like Princess, he is going into the Olympics with a season of reserve games under his belt. Maybe HAL or a league where they will play and develop would be a better option??

Kareem, I like many on here endure your pointless self serving whining out of a spirit of tolerance and free expression.

Consider that ended

Fair point (PM sent)

In all honesty, I cant see a player like Troisi coming back to the HAL. You would expect a 2nd tier UK/Euro club to pick him up.

What is so good about the HAL now is that players like him can delay heading O/S until they are a bit older and gives us a chance to see them.
