CEO Perry Quits Sydney FC
Mar 10 2008 12:07
EXCLUSIVE: Sydney FC chief executive George Perry quit the club this morning in a surprise move after less than 18 months in the job.
The shock resignation has been accepted by the club in the latest merry-go-round in management posts at Sydney.
Since Sydney FC began just over three years ago, it has had three chairmen, four managers and two chief executives.
Perry joined Sydney late in 2006 after he took over from Tim Parker who was appointed by original chairman Walter Bugno.
Andrew Kemeny's arrival as chairman appeared to bring a period of stability to the club after he sacked Branko Culina and brought in John Kosmina as manager.
But Perry's decision to walk will now bring another new face to the management structure.
Kemeny has been increasingly hands-on in the running of the club. It was the chairman who sat alongside new signings John Aloisi, Simon Colosimo and Mark Bridge last week, while Perry watched from the side.
Kemeny was also instrumental in bringing in Kosmina to replace Culina who had been drafted in under Perry.
The club this morning confirmed Perry's resignation but said it was too soon to discuss any possible replacements.
Perry was not replying to phone calls today, but he told friends: "After an incredible experience as Chief Executive at Sydney FC, I have tendered my resignation to the Chairman today.
"With the end of the season now here, an incredible season that it was, I feel it is now the right time to leave."
