I only saw it live so missed all the small details, suggest CGJ blow the whistle almost immediately therefore Borda gets off. Sure there are some replays but I think everyone focused on the collision not what happened afterwards.

As long as the whistle has gone, play stops.

If, after the whistle, someone commits a red card offence that isn't part of the play (e.g. violent conduct, spitting, offensive/insulting language or gestures) then they can be punted for that, but other than that the play has stopped so the goal couldn't have been awarded.

Thanks - not sure the whistle had gone. He seemed to take an age and then another age to decide on the red.

. that is, could they both have been sent off? whether they actually would have is irrelevant

. i would assume in this scenario ... red card offence, advantage played, second red card offence - once play is stopped both cards are issued?

Yes the ref could issue two reds, one offence does not stop others from occurring should advantage be played. It all happened so quick and everybody focused on the collision IMO because it was definitely an issue that had to be dealt with.

But the send off was for denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity. Would it have been denied if another person shot? Surely then the red card only goes to the second player?

Are you sure? Bear in mind that that is not an automatic red anymore... I thought (and hope) that the send-off was for the insane tackle?

It's only not an automatic red in the area, and then only if there's a genuine play on the ball. Outside the red still comes out.
