Mark Bridge just came onto the market, and Liam Reddy is still available.

If I weren't a fan, if I were instead a person who was playing FM and knew nothing about the league, the clubs or the players, I'd probably be in for both to round out the side.

I'm loving what Okon is doing - and what management are allowing him the freedom to do. Good to have this sort of signing during our membership drive too.

f****** love this club.

Hang on....there's no mention of him being Mark Key???
An article I read today said he was a marque signing which makes me wonder if this is another deal with FFA to bring back a player they invested heavily in in the junior national teams and promoted as the next big thing. If this is the case a very big call and risk on a player aged 20 that has never been tested at senior level consistentley and hampered with body issues and injuries and struggles with physicality.

Not wanting to sound negative, but I'm baffled about the excitement. More hype than substance?

Passes the eye test for me. Remember watching him carve up in those young socceroos teams. From memory he played up an age group at one tournament or was the youngest. Can't quite remember. Stats are very important but he eas hyped for a very good reason. Doesn't always translate to seniors which is why he needs to come here but Perth didn't play him as a #10 that much more a winger from what i remember.

Its a very CCM signing. Young talented and sell on fee potential.

We don't get him though if things hadn't gone wrong for him and there is some risk indeed. But I'd rather bomb out on him than some overseas players we'd never heard of

I'm thrilled De Silva has signed for 3 seasons but surely he can't be a marquee. That's too big a burden to put on a 20 year's old shoulders.

LOL we can't have one discussion without a kick to MC.

. aww, poor MC - I think Coach has raised a valid point

I don't think he would be secured as a Marquee to save money under the cap, under Charlesworth we never spend the cap so saving money on the cap isn't an issue, I doubt that's likely to change in the short to medium term

. we have become so accustomed to MC's false economies that of course we will be cynical of any suggestion we will spend above the cap

. my question is, if DDS was signed as a marquee does that mean that his salary can't count towards the cap? - i.e. we still need to reach the cap floor with the salaries of the remaining squad members

. now considering that apparently we paid bonuses to the under-performing 'spoon squad' just to reach the cap in the Garcia season I think that must be the case, but I'd like confirmation - because that would show intent ... intent worthy of praise

. because surely we are now done with paying for previous mistakes - i.e. paying players no longer at the club. even to spend the minimum is probably a step up for us. add to this that we have lost all of our big earners from last season (Monty, Fab, ROD + the two cuzzies) and replaced them with only two or three so far (excluding Hoole because i'm not sure) - there should still be money to spend (including an increased cap, whatever that should be)

. however since the Club has not mentioned (in the linked article) that DDS is a marquee signing this is all rather hypothetical anyway. so that's two things i'd like confirmed

"The 20-year-old De Silva’s wages sit inside the salary cap, however, it’s understood he may be moved outside the cap as a marquee depending how much the Mariners spend on other players, including an import striker"

Its this part which explains the marquee deal. Seems like we are going to be around the cap or over it. Nice. Would rather they signed a serious marquee striker though.

Still a first choice CB, keeper and striker to go. Really looking forward to the last few signings

Hang on. He's a 20yo that's played 50 first grade games. Hopefully 75 by end of season. That's what I see. All up side.

He's been the next Kewell for 5+yrs. he's been overseas, I'm hoping that just Spurs on his ambition

If it is a burden then it won't be a good season for him or us

My read is they are technically different

I believe a marquee would count towards the cap floor as the point of the floor is to make sure player salaries reach a competitive point. The marquee is a playing salary that's purpose is to allow a club to pay above the cap.

The fact that a marquee is used though indicates you will be over the cap.

Last year Jumpai from WSW was considered a marquee for accounting purposes as his wage must have put them over the limit or his was higher and allowed better flexibility under the cap if he was excluded. I think we are doing something similar here with DDS

Have it on good authority that we are real close to another CB...one who will be a starter and better than our current stock.

Note - dont ask for a name, i dont have one to offer
Wonder if Borda from WSW would be an option. WSW would be keen to get rid of so may pay half or more of his salary. He would want to play, WSW could use a foreigner elsewhere and we have space.

He didn't go well but would he be better than what we have
