I don't think Birighitti is anything like a Danny replacement although it might do him good playing under Creepy. I rate him as a good number 2 - similar to Kennedy - not the first choice but very solid. Problem for Sydney with Redders is they already have that.

Is it just me or has Redmayne been extremely unfortunate with the club's he had signed for? I thought he would have been number 1 somewhere by now.

We are now at 19 players with apparently a GK, CB, CS and maybe another CM to come. I've put Jake at RB since he played there in the trial and while there are plenty that can play there, none is a specialist RB. Golec also was played at LB so I have competing with Josh for the LB position. If Harry leaves we would need another backup CB. I've put Powell as the DDS backup and Hoole wide, they could be swapped - but I suspect Hoole with start over Blake.

-----------------Keeper 1/ Kennedy /Pearce
Roux/McGing-----RCB/Ascroft/Baro/Rowles----Rose/Golec
------------------Hiariej/Berry----------------------------
-------------------------Rose/CM------------
-----------------De Silva/Powell ----------------------
Hoole/Appiah-Kubi ----CS / Bingham---------Pain/Trent

In spite of Hoole's hatrick I have left him out wide. I think Okon will use Hoole and Connor differently this year. He played Hoole at CAM in the first half and had Connor cutting in a lot in the second half last night. I think he will be looking at his wingers, especially the first choice ones, to mix it ap a lot more, sometimes staying wide, at other times cutting in.

Assuming DDS is outside the cap I still think we have a large slice of cap space for the remaining 4 players. At the moment I think we are looking at positions 5-8. With the right final 4 we can be top 4 material.

I think he is very much a confidence keeper. When he was the clear number 1 at WSW he played well in spite of the RBB blaming him for their poor defence. When Poppa brought in Reddy his confidence dropped - probably because he felt the manager no longer had faith in him, and his form dropped. I think playing for Arnie and JC is a good place for him. If they sign Birighitti I think Redders will compete well for the first spot.

He had three seasons at Heart to become our number one, two of which he was handed it, I don't think he's unfortunate just sadly below standard.

Interestingly De Silvas younger brother Rhett came off the bench for the academy 18s today. According to the interwebs he is a left winger but came on at right back. Looks like he followed Danny to Roda but played in their U-19s.
Possible 2 for 1 lunch combo happening there.

So it look's like Jake Adelson has left the club to.

Exciting signing, welcome aboard DDS!!!

Now we just need a DM enforcer ala another Monty
^ This.
Monty was massive and carried us a lot imo. It will be interesting to see how we go without him.
Our expectation should be an improving squad. Making the finals at least would be nice.

oh, and finishing above Newey like usual.....

So I had a little thought while reading something on another forum about our recruiting. They mentioned how we have recruited very well so far, and how it was a shame we couldn't keep Odonovan to play with the new squad. It got me thinking, I was disappointed that we lost him, because at the time I thought we were being cheap. Now, with our current recruiting in key positions, I get the feeling we may have not tried so hard to keep him because we are actually aiming higher than his ceiling? It's a novel thought for a mariners fan...

I like the way you are thinking, but doubt that it is correct. Paulo said publicly on a number of occasions that we wanted him to stay a Mariner, that he constantly told Roy that he's loved (or words to that effect) etc. My belief is that we offered him more than his old contract, but were significantly out-bid by Lawrie.

I agree with the writer from the other forum - it is a shame we couldn't keep him with this new squad. We'll never know, but I reckon he would have scored a lot of goals for us this season.

I had this conversation on this forum a while ago. On his strike rate from last year he would have to take twice as many shots as berisha to score the same account of goals. I just dont see him as a clinical striker and if the jets fail this year I cant see him breaking into the top ranks of forwards.

I'm with you on this. Even with the delivery he got, he actually found himself into goalscoring positions a LOT - and while he managed to score a lot of goals he also missed a lot that any striker should have scored.

Perhaps that's mindset, or perhaps he simply doesn't have the ability to finish clinically and consistently. He's been a key player for us (as much for attitude as anything else)- and it was good to see that he's got his discipline in check

There are definitely better strikers out there for the money and as much as he was a decent player for us generally, he was clearly already out the door a good 4-6 weeks before the end of last season. Let's not forget the whole headbutt episode and the sheer number of times he was caught offside, which were both as frustrating as all hell.

Provided we recruit someone better, I for one won't be crying about his departure but let's just hope he doesn't return to haunt us like so many other former players.

Birighitti is a top quality keeper in my opinion. We should sign him if he's available.
