ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

HMAS Adelaide - Yay or Nay?

HMAS Adelaide to be scuttled off Avoca (?) to provide a dive attraction.

Will bring jobs and revenue to Coast so opposed by NIMBIES in Avoca etc

You know, the people who singlehandedly want to stiffle development/jobs/tourism on the C Coast.

Those people.

Playing the environmental card (obviously).

Apparently, its toxic and will kill us all and its the end of civilisation as we know it.

1.8klm off the beach at Avoca to be precise and in 32m of water

Enviro assessment done as per the Act and no adverse impact identified.

NIMBIES view is its toxic metal and we will all die - instantly

The same sorts who think the LHC will suck Earth into a giant black hole etc.

A dive site on the Coast would be amazing.

By all accounts the impact of putting a boat that has been in the water for 30 years IN THE WATER, is like dividing by zero

when you have million dollar proerties and salaries you don't want riff-raff divers and backpackers hanging around your neighbourhood

They could doss in the park at Avoca, bring kegs, have drag races up and down the streets.

Then the Nimbies sell up and we can bulldoze the place and turn it into Gold Coast

Works for me

Yay. It's nearly 3km offshore. If that affects the surf break I'm a pink budgie and as for coastal pollution - have they *seen* the lagoon after rain? FFS...

As I've had to go to nearly every single meeting and discussion on this for work...

YAY.

1. The amount of jobs it will bring to the coast will be fantastic. The tourism for Central Coast is going to sky rocket which is going to create a huge revenue for local businesses. It's an attraction also that can be done all year around, whereas Terrigal and the res of the coast mostly onlt gains a major jump in tourism during the summer season.

2. As well as a dive site, it is also going to be a place for marine life to use as a haven and populate. A bunch of environmental assessments have already taken place:

http://www.hmasadelaide.com/enviromental_information/environmental_assessment

3. As far as the legal, "Lets stop the ship being blown up the day before"....pish. The ship has been completley stripped of pretty much everything but the shell and is being towed into Terrigal to arrive on Thursday afternoon where it will be start to be placed with explosives. If at 5pm Friday, they start a law suit? Fantastic. Lets leave a ship full of explosoves just sitting out on our water for weeks on end until something is sorted out.

http://www.hmasadelaide.com is the website with a bunch of information. The Premiers Cabinet is looking after the event at Avoca Beach as well.

Scuttling time is in the morning, looking to be at about 10:30
(Program is here: http://www.hmasadelaide.com/__data/assets/pdf_file/0019/125902/27_March_2010_-_HMAS_Adelaide_Scuttling_-_Event_Program.pdf)

Of course, this depends on the weather conditions... hopefully the reaction of the bad weather up north won't affect the scuttling.

I think it's going to be fantastic, and if you have the time in the morning to head to Avoca Beach to watch it...do! There are going to be heaps of stall and music and entertainment, as well as Sea FM and Star FM Broadcasting from Avoca Beach, and 2GO will be Broadcasting from a boat out on the water. Express Advocate, ABC and NBN will also be there to cover the day.

Yeh, the anti-Adelaide protestors are a huge minority. They predicted a turnout of 10,000 protestors on Avoca beach and only got 600. No doubt they're the family, friends and rent-a-crowd of the few "sky is falling" hippies that are opposing this. http://express-advocate-gosford.whereilive.com.au/news/story/600-people-join-avoca-beach-protest-against-sinking-ex-hmas-adelaide/

Proving what I said in another thread about the area being populated by stuck up snobs, tossers and Vaucluse wannabes  ;)

I think it's a great idea.

Let's get another one off Terrigal and really piss them off !

;D

Drive one up the beach at Terrigal and leave it there Pasha Bulka style.

Would improve Terrigal no end anyway.

Got my "C" card ... i.e. basic divers licence in 1972... still go diving today (well not today being today) but you get my meaning... can hardly wait ... 32 meters about 100 feet ... 3 atm's ...bring it onnnnnnnn...

AND AND AND AND .... a night dive on a sunken ship ... that would be FOOKING awesome...
