I think you will find that it was the Dutch who wiped Spain in the 2014 WC. The Dutch played a mixture of possesion based football but also scored goals from counterattacks. This is the way the Mariners have been endeavouring to play this season as far as I can make out.
It was both the Netherlands and Chile who put Spain out of the group stage in 2014. A sign of the sophistication of new strategies with pressing and quick transitions ultimately playing a big part for the German winners.
Our team is not so good with pressing (yet?) but we do well on the transition.

So...any thoughts on a score after the ref signals full time ?....I’m thinking 2-1 to us ...but a absolute touch up would be appreciated

I think they are good but have played against a few teams that were a mess. Adelaide wasn’t beating anyone the way they turned up to play Brisbane and Victory have been shithouse twice, those 3 games are probably the worst performances I’ve seen this season and it wasn’t something Brisbane particularly forced.

For what it’s worth I think we’ve had tougher tests overall and I’m interested to see how they fare against Macarthur on Tuesday.
Having beaten Syd, Mac and $ity our quality is clear. I'm keen as to play roar to put them back in their place.

This will be a tough game and like wellington and the egg poachers we risk a sucker punch loss if we aren't careful.

That said if we play at full steam against a lesser team sometime soon I think we have to be good for dealing out a thrashing sooner or later

Yeah I’m excited for this game but it does worry me as we put so much into the City comeback win. Whilst we have had 3 day turn around games this is the third game in 7 days so this is new. Staj needs to get his rotation right but I’m joyed by the depth we now have.

Olli to keep the diving Diamanti quiet and I feel their weakness is there defence so could be plenty of goals this game.

Bring it on and would be great to see at least 6k turn up this afternoon.

Just wondering if Ollie has been added to the squad to keep the other lot guessing.
I thought earlier in the week they said he was out for two games.

I’m assuming may they also rest Simon for a second half sub so might be Urena and Alou up front.

Yes - still can't see Ollie making it and Matty to start on the bench. Nizzy to play the Ollie role, Janota to the left. Simon and Bouman to be the extra striking options. Ballard unlucky not to make the bench but need to see more of Jankovic

Cannot see Nizzy getting the holding midfielder role. Otherwise he would have started the season there with Casella wide. Janota into the middle Nizzy back to wide and Stens in holding if Ollie is unavailable.

I wonder how our CB’s are holding up, both have played a lot of football. We seem to forget to rest them. Maybe some subs in the backs this match other than Nigro.

That is a huge role this game keeping Diamanti quiet.
