Round 5 preliminary FFA Cup matches confirmed in NSW

40 NSW teams have found out their FFA Cup fate as round 5 of the prestigious draw was announced on Friday at Football NSW’s headquarters.

Led by Football NSW CEO Stuart Hodge as well as Local FC and former Sydney United and Marconi Stallions star Chad Gibson, the duo had the task of drawing out each of the forty teams schedules with matches set to take shape either on the 2nd and 9th of May.

As many as thirteen Football NSW Association clubs from across the state including four Football South Coast Association teams (Albion Park White Eagles, Tarrawanna Blueys SC, Bulli FC, Wollongong Olympic), three Central Coast Football Association teams (TERRIGAL UNITED, BERKELEY VALE SC, KILLARNEY DISTRICT SC) as well as sole representatives from the Eastern Suburbs (Maroubra United), Gladesville-Hornsby (Gladesville Ravens), Sutherland Shire (Kirrawee Kangaroos FC), Manly (Belrose Terrey Hills Raiders SC), Football Wagga Wagga (Henwood Park FC) and Shoalhaven Association (Bomaderry SC) are all still in contention of a place in round 6 of the Preliminary round draw.

A few exciting clashes have been announced with two all NPL NSW Men’s affairs taking shape, one at Seymour Shaw as the Sutherland Sharks take on Hakoah Sydney City East while at Cromer Park a massive encounter will feature 2017 Champions Manly United tackle red-hot Blacktown City who in recent seasons, have had fantastic runs in the FFA Cup Round of 32 and beyond.

It will be a tough task but Football Wagga Wagga’s Henwood Park FC will travel to Edensor Park where they will face NPL NSW Men’s outfit Sydney United 58 while Gladesville-Hornsby FA’s Gladesville Ravens will travel to Sydney West where they will battle NPL NSW Men’s side Marconi Stallions.

An all association affair will however dominate the headlines as Shoalhaven’s Bomaderry SC will host Central Coast Football’s Killarney District SC while giant-killers Kirrawee Kangaroos from the Sutherland Shire FA who recently knocked out State League Men’s side Nepean FC, will hope they can inflict the same pain on the Balmain Tigers FC.

What's with Berkeley Vale and Killarney calling themselves SC rather than FC.

Seams the Northern end of the Coast is still in the dark ages??

FFA Cup round six drawn in Victoria

The FFA Cup round six draw in Victoria has been conducted, with some interesting matchups in store.

NPL2 Western Conference leaders Altona Magic will travel to Whittlesea Ranges to face the seventh-placed side.

Elsewhere Richmond FC will host last year’s semi-finalists Hume City, and Port Melbourne Sharks are set to welcome Whittlesea United FC.

There are a number of unknowns in the fixture list, given there are still two round five fixtures to be played.

The winner of Oakleigh Cannons and Sydenham Park SC will play Kingston City FC or Manningham United Blues FC in the next round, with both those matches to be played on Tuesday night.

Goulburn Valley SC will face either St Kilda SC or Bentleigh Greens SC, while North Sunshine Eagles will play either Bulleen Lions or Avondale FC.

A full list of fixtures can be found below, with all games set to kick off at 7:30 pm on the 2nd of May.

Cairns FC prevail in all-time FFA Cup classic

A nine-man Cairns FC pulled off an incredible comeback against the Southside Comets in one of the greatest FFA Cup clashes in the competition's short history on Wednesday.

Trailing 2-0 in second-half injury time, Cairns FC scored twice in quick succession to send the game into extra-time, before prevailing 4-3 after 120 minutes of enthralling Cup action.

Despite coming up against National Premier Leagues opposition, Southside Comets were putting up an almighty fight against fellow North Queensland side Cairns FC.

They took a surprise lead inside the first 10 minutes of the clash, with Will Monin putting David 1-0 up against Goliath.

They held on to their advantage heading into the break, and even managed to double their lead early in the second half through Hiroto Higuchi.

It got better for the Comets, with Cairns FC reduced to nine men. A huge Cupset was on the cards.

But they let their guard down, and Cairns managed to pull one back in the 90th minute thanks to Jamie Carroll. Seconds later, it was 2-2. Carroll scored again through a free-kick with literally the last kick of regulation time.
Cairns FC had pulled off an almighty escape, and then managed to add a third and a fourth in extra time, both scored by Joshua Taylor.

The Comets did pull one back through Higuchi again to set up a nervy finish, but in the end the nine men of Cairns FC held on for an incredible victory.

As we continue the qualifying towards the FFA Cup Round of 32, there have been a couple of upsets out of Victoria as Oakleigh Cannons and Hume City fell on Tuesday night.

There were a total of six games played in the Football Federation Victoria Round 6 FFA Cup qualifiers, with Moreland Zebras and Mornington SC still to play on Wednesday night.

There was also one game played in Football Federation Northern Territory where 2015 Round of 32 representatives Darwin Olympic SC fell 4-0 to Hellenic Athletic Club in Round 4 qualifying.

But it was down in Victoria where two other upsets occurred involving Oakleigh and Hume City.

FFA Cup 2015 quarter-finalists Oakleigh Cannons lost 2-1 at home to Kingston City FC.

But the big shock took place in Richmond, with the Victorian State League 1 South-East team Richmond SC beating their more fancied NPL opponents Hume City - semi-finalists in 2015 - after extra time.

Erlantz Pinedo Lopez and Arnold Suew scored Richmond’s two goals in an eventual 2-1 win.

Finally, North Sunshine Eagles – who theffacup.com.au have been following over the previous qualifying rounds – have fallen to Avondale FC 4-0 to end their dream run.

Tuesday night’s FFV Round 6 preliminary rounds results:

Northcote City 1-0 Murray United FC

Port Melbourne Sharks SC 2-0 Whittlesea United SC

Oakleigh Cannons FC 1-2 Kingston City FC

Richmond SC 2-1 Hume City FC

Whittlesea Ranges FC 0-1 Altona Magic SC

North Sunshine Eagles FC 0-4 Avondale FC
