The draw for the FIFA Confederations Cup 2017 Russia has been made with Australia set to face Germany, Chile and the Champions of Africa (to be determined).
The African participant will be known following the African Cup of Nations tournament in February with the winner booking their place in Russia.

The draw was made at a lavish ceremony in Kazan, Russia on Sunday morning (AEDT).

The event was attended by Caltex Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou.

In the other group, Russia, New Zealand, Portugal and Mexico were drawn together.

The Socceroos qualified for the tournament after claiming the 2015 AFC Asian Cup on home soil in January 2015, defeating the Korea Republic 2-1 in front of 80,000 fans at ANZ Stadium in Sydney.

Australia has qualified for the FIFA Confederations Cup on three previous occasions but this is the first time it has qualified as Champions of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).

Australia competed in the 1997 (Saudi Arabia), 2001 (Japan and Korea) and 2005 FIFA Confederations Cup (Germany) as Champions of Oceania (OFC) with a runners-up finish in their maiden appearance the Socceroos' best result.

Kazan is one of the four venues for the FIFA Confederations Cup 2017 along with Moscow, Sochi and St Petersburg.

Damn, first match against Germany.
It will be interesting to see if Postecoglou can prevent another Durban.
