Knights fans are fickle? If the Jets lost 13 matches in a row, I very much doubt they'd get 18,000 to a home game. Or even 8,000 for that matter....

Zadkovich arrives in Newcastle

The Newcastle Jets have today announced the signing of versatile midfielder Ruben Zadkovich on a three-year contract. The announcement comes less than a week after New Zealand international Jeremy Brockie penned a two-year deal with the Hyundai A-League 2007/08 Champions.

Zadkovich, 23, comes to the Hunter-based club after completing a two-year stint with English Football League Championship side Derby County, where injury unfortunately limited his playing time. Prior to this, the one-time Qantas Socceroo enjoyed an extended spell with Sydney FC, where he developed a reputation as one of the most versatile and dynamic young players in the domestic game.

Having initially risen through the ranks of English clubs Queens Park Rangers and Notts County as a teenager, Zadkovich represented Australia extensively at both U-20 and U-23 levels, scoring the nations only goal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics in the process.

Today, though, the laid-back Bulli-born boy revealed that he was simply delighted to have returned home to play in the Hyundai A-League ..

They are coming thick and fast on his mock twitter character Rubez:

Gosh. Just met Mr Milicevic and he's invited me round to watch some DVDs with him this arvo. What a nice man. Wonder if I can bring Simon?

I'm not saying it's been a while since I actually had a game, but the last time I played 90 minutes, no-one had an iPhone in Australia. FACT

I'm going to have to get mum to speak to Uncle Bwanko. I want at least one fish finger roll a week and my bus fare to all training sessions.

Oh flipping heck - I just looked at the contract Simon signed for me...the Jets are paying me in mangos because Simon loves flipping mangos.

Simon the Wombat is the greatest agent ever known in football history. That smell of chiko rolls and Centrelink? NEWCASTLE JETS! I'm BACK!!!

More hilarity from Rubez on Twitter:

Bit concerned about the stadium setup at EA. I want my contract to say I don't have to pay for any lost balls. That's a deal-breaker.

Flip! Mr Milicevic's DVDs were RUDEFILMS like mum has, AND he wouldn't give me a cushion - he just stared at my lap all the time. BadSexMan.

Scum are in Financial trouble... HHMMMMMMMMMmmm me thinks it's Con ... take Con out and the club would do much better...

http://www.smh.com.au/sport/a-league/cashstrapped-jets-send-sos-to-ffa-to-cover-players-wages-20100830-147fh.html

THE future of the Newcastle Jets has been thrown into turmoil with the club admitting it is falling drastically behind in payments to creditors and is unable to pay its players.

Club chairman Con Constantine, who has owned the club since its creation in 2000, has been forced to approach the Football Federation Australia for a loan to help the club through the next few months.

The FFA is pondering whether it should step in to save the ailing club, which, despite operating on the league's tightest budget, continues to lose $2-$3 million each year - with Constantine footing the shortfall.

While the FFA has previously moved quickly to help clubs facing financial difficulty - only Melbourne Heart and the Jets have never been assisted - it might not be so sympathetic towards Constantine, who has frequently criticised the game's governing body and, as recently as last season, threatened to sue the FFA when it tried to hire Jets coach Gary van Egmond as the national under-17 coach.

A-League chief executive Lyall Gorman declined to reveal how far the FFA would be prepared to assist the Jets but said the league had opened talks with the club.

''We've been made aware of some short-term financial issues with the Newcastle Jets and that they've fallen behind in meeting some of their short-term financial obligations,'' he told the Herald yesterday. ''We're working with them to try and better understand what that looks like and how short-term it is. Hopefully, we can find out as quickly as possible the full extent of what the real issues are.''

Jets chief executive John Tsatsimas confirmed that funds were not available to cover all the costs of running the club. ''It's true that we're experiencing some financial issues at this point in time, and certainly we've fallen behind in a couple of areas,'' he said. ''Specifically, we're aware that we've been unable to keep up with certain creditors, and this week we haven't been able to pay the players. That's the landscape at the moment.''

However, Constantine was in a bullish mood yesterday, reaffirming his ''absolute love'' for the Jets and that the club's financial problems could be solved by some help from College Street.

''All I want from the FFA is a short-term solution in the form of some financial assistance,'' he said. ''I don't want a handout. I just need a little help to get over this obstacle and, in the future, I promise everything will be tidied up.

''I understand that the FFA, unfortunately, have got very little dollars in their coffers. But we need them to come to the party. I know it's beautiful to have the Socceroos but the A-League is the bread and butter of Australian football.''

Constantine promised that ''every dollar the FFA gives to me will be given back'', and that he specifically wanted to cover the players' wages.

''I have never before asked the FFA for a cent, and I have not missed a payment in 10 years,'' he said. ''The short-term solution is for them to pay the wages for the boys, for a short period of time, and then we take over and everything will be as sweet as pie.''

Without a major sponsor, the Jets are also suffering from being unable to claim several revenue-raising avenues from the stadium, which is leased from the NSW government by the NRL's Newcastle Knights, who are in a long-running dispute with Hunter Venues over the management of the stadium.

As a CC fan. If they fold the incredible feeling I get when I beat them will never be available to me again.

As a football fan, they have been of good value to the league.

*Doesn't bother donning fire proof suit - knows it couldn't possibly be thick enough*

As to not paying player wages... That was a complete shock.

Ohhhhhh wait...

It isn't Mango season yet is it??

hate to bring the mood down but... If the scummers fold would there be pressure from ffa for the mariners to play games up there and cover both fan bases? (or would ccm board see that as an opportunity to build the brand?

GOD i hope not...
