Round 18. Newcastle away.

Birra could go back to the Jets or possibly MacArthur.Would be a great loss and difficult to replace with someone of equal ability.

Wherever he goes he'll want to be No.1.
Newcastle have Italiano, so don't think he'll go there. Macarthur have money to burn by the looks of it.
Only Oar signed so far isn't it?

Got to question the coaching here. I'm a fan of Staj. But a coach that can't fire up his squad for an F3 Derby has to be suspect. We were well below what was required. How it didn't end up 0-7 is amazing.

What can you say or what can you do.

Until we change owners then it will be one false dawn after another...

Its taken 16 games.... I was questioning everyone since GA around game 10.
So there's that I guess.

Yeah the amount of space and go forward they had was astounding.

Miller——-Ziggy——Stens——Rowles
Harold——Kim——Nisbit——-Clisby
——————-Simon———————
——————-Murray———————

Duric - Simon
Jair - Murray
Oar - Clisby
Desilva back up mid.

* Giving Simon another chance to hold up ball and provide some lay-offs.
He didn’t even get the ball near him especially after the yellow and the goals.

* Jair does have some energy but I think I would try him as a super sub up front and have Murray’s energy from the start.

* Duric has lost his legs and other teams have caught up fitness wise so I think his quality could also be handy to see out games and snag those long shots when team are tired.

* Harold did put that nice one away but we desperately need some quality moving the ball diagonal to use width.
And if the team is sliding correctly to compact themselves he should end up in the middle a fair bit.

* Clisby! Haha. Get him out of the backs but his crossing is low hard and has some whip and he has pace and determination so why the f**k not unleash him.

* Stens lacks attacking quality but has been great in running down and fowling players tactically. He has good physical presence and can clear with the head.
And also solves the left back weakness by as lots have mentioned trying Rowles at left.

* Kim and Nizzy need to stay in the middle!
None of this in and out of the back shit.
They could be great together and control games.

The move of Stens to CB and Clisby to Left Wing + Harold gives us tactically more width and pace in attack.
Stens is a DM and should be able to take that load off Kim moving the ball forwards.

Tonj and Majok did alright but I think it was more the illusion of Newcastle being in front and letting guard down / Mariners trying to fight back.
Similar to how we score than almost immediately let the other team back in.

So that my long winded tactical solution to give some depth and width.
And also have some quality and experience to finish the games.

With our current playing roster DDS needs to start. We missed his work rate today and ability to hold the ball. Yeah, sure, he absolutely holds the ball too long and doesn’t have penetrative passes, but at least we do hold on to the ball unlike today. His work rate was also sorely missed and seems to be the heart beat of our midfield.

Agreed. We just need to start the players who care. I think Tongyik has warranted a starting spot and Fox will be a timely return to allow Kim to move further forward.

But seriously, what's the point of having 5 at the back if none of them can defend?

I also agree an owner change is required. We really haven't had a good recruit in some time.

Most of what l wanted to say has already been said but big shout out to every CCM fan who travelled up to the scumdome in this horrendous weather. Lucky for us the rain wasn't that bad up there.

The performance, well we are honestly going down a level every week and that's mightily concerning. Staj got the starting team wrong. Silvera did nothing to warrant a start and his performance was laughably bad. Nisbet had started the last 2 and got dropped. WHY!?

Anyway, l think all the negatives have been said, l just wanna say that Harold is gonna look like a world beater in our side and his finish was superb. But not just the goal, his work rate was very good and his closing down and tracking in midfield showed an urgency everyone else on that field in yellow should have had.

We move on and guess who booked flights for Adelaide months ago and is going next week? The things we do etc...

Five at the back was a disaster because we lost the midfield. Poor Stens was run off his feet with the lack of defensive midfield cover from Silvera and Djuric.

Until he drops to the mediocrity of everyone else. Seen it too many times. I am naming it Milan Syndrome.

what's interesting is that we actually scored 3 goals from open play.
Is that a potential positive sign we can take away from the game? sign of some improvement, or a fluke?

After Kim scored the own goal, he showed we should be playing him higher up the pitch. The amount of space he created for crosses was great.
We had about 4 great balls into the box just begging for the striker to make the near post run. This has happened repeatedly this season to the point where you'd have to say the strikers have been told NOT to make that run... Baffling.
Finally, we never seem to have a player in the middle of the park, so most loose balls go to the opposition.

This is good news, because l only know of one other person going. Will be sure to find out what a good pub is for away fans pre-game for some alcoholic beverages.

Are free kicks and corners considered open play now? ;)

Their defending was disgraceful on the goals. Harold's was a beautiful finish after comical work by the Scummers.

And that all came about by pressing them. Something we didn't do very well. It was tragic how easy it was for them to play out and find acres of space every time.
