I’m willing to keep an open mind about the signing if it eventuates. At this point anyone that’s a free agent is going to have some negative whether it’s injury risk, form, attitude or unrealistic money expectations. We either take who we can get or hold out hope we can go fishing in January and try to get our business done early rather than late.

I’m open to signing Jair purely from a football perspective. He’s the type of forward that would link well with Oar, DDS, Milan and Silvera.
He has pretty good touch, effective lay offs/flicks. Plays one twos well and has decent enough pace and movement. He was played out of position all of last season basically. I think one of the very few times he played up front he scored a good goal. And his K-League record shouldn’t ever be scoffed at.
Yeah he’s an ex scummer but as much as we want that to matter, it doesn’t in this league.

Jair sounds like a distant past rumour but if it's still on the cards I'll trust Staj.
A goal every second game in the K-League is nothing to sniff at - and a poor season played out of position in a poor scum season isn't impossible. Doesn't mean he's no good.
Still, don't think it will happen but if it did I'd be open to it and then the proof would be in the pudding

From the Scum games I watched last year as he improved his fitness he did look a lot better. I'm on the fence and I'll give him a chance if it happens. Staj has Oar and DDS playing well so I think he knows what he is doing and we clearly do not have a line up out the door of players wanting to come and play for us. Interesting times and you only have to look what Troisi has done for AU, they looked weak in the midfield and looked a different team on the weekend in beating the Scum. Maybe Jair will have the same impact as I recall a few saying we appear to be only one good player away from a very good team.

The F3 derby is set for added spice, with Newcastle Jets cast-off Jair close to signing for Central Coast.
It’s understood the Brazilian striker trained with the Mariners on Monday as part of a fitness assessment that, if successful, could culminate in an A-League contract with his former club’s fierce rivals.
That would mean a fifth and final foreigner for Alen Stajcic, and one the coach will hope can start finishing the chances his new-look squad have been creating.
Jair signed with the Jets last September but struggled for fitness and took a decent proportion of the campaign to get going, despite showing flashes of potential.
Last season he scored two goals from 20 appearances, including 16 starts.
However the 31-year-old was often played on the left wing, with Roy O’Donovan preferred up top and Jason Hoffman preferred in the No.9 role while the Irishman served his lengthy early season suspension.
He was among six players released by the Jets at the end of last season after Ernie Merrick’s men missed out on the finals.
The Mariners are hoping Jair, who spent much of his career in the K-League, is a ready-made striker for a Mariners side showing more pluck but still struggling for goals.
Stajcic’s side have scored two from two games this season, both courtesy of Serbian midfielder Milan Duric, from a total 18 shots (eight on target).
It comes as the Jets prepare to travel to Leichhardt Oval on Friday to face reigning champions Sydney FC, who’ll be out to right last weekend’s derby loss to Western Sydney.
“Sydney’s a top team,” Merrick said.
“They’ve proved it over the last couple of years and retained most of their players.
“So it’s going to be a tough one but the Wanderers beat them and I think that’s the way this season’s going to go.
“There’s no one team … anyone can take points from anyone else and we’ve got to back ourselves to beat any team we’re up against.”

I honestly don’t know who it is, I didn’t recognise him. At first glance looked like nick cowburn from jets but luckily wasn’t him. I’m heading to training now so myself it wombat might be able to give an update

There was a younger, skinnier guy at training last week that was playing right midfield. Was that him?

Good training session today. JAIR was there. He looks pretty decent. Not match fit but not unfit either. Has a good touch. I would suggest he will be a handy pick up.
There was another young African kid trying out who looked interesting but not involved in proper training.
The Youth team look good and had a very professional training session on the top pitch.
Training is much more professional this year.
The two players that impressed me a lot today were Stensness and Clisby which surprised me a bit.
We have very few players carrying injury and we looked fit. DDS's dribbling is a joy to watch.
I think the players people didnt recognise is maybe Miller and Hatch.
