Mariners squad HAL 10 ~ 2014/15

A decent squad with no f**king first 11 striker. Again.
I think Dukey will step up this season. He is a first 11 striker, and if he gets the chances will score goals. There are a number of other players that will score goals for us, i think Mossy is going for versatile players across the park. Kim, Caceres, Mane, The Hungarian if he comes, Trif, Matty, Fitzy etc are all capable of scoring 5 or more a season. Boz probably as well.

We have a shipload of depth this season it seems. Here is hoping we can get Dukes firing again, he is a confidence player and it won't take many before h me is banging them in for fun. I'm excited about the African and Hungarian, pure because I like watching foreigners play and see how they do, if they are both shit, meh chance for a young local

Duke needs better service & better composure when he makes a break.

I'm wondering if all the hype about Kalik being our new wonder kid might be over shadowing Liam Rose.
The other kid we picked up with Kalik - He has been playing in Paul Okon's U/20 Aussie team & played in a few of the games on the USA trip & was a sub for the game against the all star's last night (not sure if he played).
Could be a nice little smokey for the squad.

Just on weeJudas ...

How many overseas players do we have...Storm, Malick, Kim, maybe Richard Vernes and weeJudas ... can you have five ... I understand a player from the AFC can count as an extra import and thats Kim...

I'm an idiot savant without the pesky savant bit
I'm so over this McGlinchey thing, I cant even be bothered calling him WeeJudas anymore....

Storm has an Australian passport from what I understand, so doesn't count as foriegn.

For Asian Champions League, it is 3+1 (three foreign and one extra Asian player), but A-League is still 5 foreign players.

Malick Mane (Senegal), Nick Montgomery (Scotland), Kim Seung Yong (Korea), and Richard Vernes (Hungary) or Michael McGlinchey (New Zealand)

I'm not ashamed to say that I'm not convinced that I actually understand the rules, but wasn't there some talk around the David Villa thing, that loans count differently too?
I know he's only there for a part-season, but still :)

Guest players don't count towards the salary cap. They can play I think either 10 or 15 games. Example: Lucas Neill's appearances for Sydney FC.

Teams can select one injury replacement foreign player, incase one of their foreign players get injured.

And, of course, in 12/13 the Western Sydney Wanderers had 6 international players because why not? They were granted an extra spot in 13/14 but didn't use it if I remember correctly. I do believe they are limited to 5 now.

Five players allows us to sign both Vernes & McGlinchey and drop one player from the ACL matches ... if we had both along with Fity & Kim by fark we would have a midfield that could win the comp ... especially if Mane hits his straps as well ... still missing a quality striker

Assume we win the case and sign Vernes..

Boy O boy we have a midfield ..

Trifiro, Hutch, Monty, Caceres, Cernak, L Rose, Kalik [said to be as good as Musty and Rogic] Kim, Vernes & McGlinchey

Then we have Malick Mane and Fitzy would appear to be able to play as a striker and or left mid...

Potential run on side with 2 DM and 3 AM

Monty & Caceres ... bench Hutch

Mane, McGlinchy, Kim ...... bench Kalik, Vernes, Trifiro ....

We are solid at the back .... this squad is building ...

I'm a bit confused with all this WeeMac thing. Do we actually want to keep him or are we just putting up a fight out of principal and will then just let him go once we have shown we won't be taken advantage of ?

I suspect you are correct with the latter statement, which I think is really the only scenario in which we can "win" in this particularly shit situation.

At the end of the day, if we dont put up a fight, we look like pushovers, Phoenix get there man and Weemac is happy
If we do put up a fight and lose, we took a stand but look like whingers, Phoenix get there man and Weemac is happy.
If we put up a fight and win, we took a stand and look good, we then let him go out of spite, Phoenix get there man and Weemac is happy.

Like most people have already stated, no player who doesnt want to be here will play well, goodbye little man.
