Who was your player of the year?

Ryan and WeeMac won the plaudits this season but who was your player of the year and why?

Ryan just pipped WeeMac for mine with an honorable mention to Wilko and Dutchy.

I agree with the fans choice of WeeMac. I thought he was dynamic running at defenders and had a great season.

Ryan then Patrick with special mention to Wilko and McGlinch; but the player who had the most impact was undoubtedly Matty Simon...

A centreback who equal top scores for the side with 7 goals in a team whose defence won them the plate not their attack...

HAS to be Dutchy for me.

FP changed my vote lol
Dutchy does deserve it IMO

2. Wilko...missed first 2 games, then we went on a 10-15 match unbeaten run...coincidence?
3. Ryan...insane season
4. McGlinchey...him and Wilko are without a doubt the 2 most underrated players in the comp. Top Assists in the league...not many people know that (maybe 4th is underrating him lol)
5. Simon...if he stayed he would have been higher.

And honourable mention Daniel McBreen...I didn't rate him, thought he was a waste of space, but I thought he was fantastic this season, and has earnt the 1 yr extension.

Worst performers :p
1. porter...sorry mate
2. pelle...lucky porter was around to 'outdo' him :p
3. Sutton...waste of time
4. Olly...I blame Vidmar
5. Rose...but he got good towards end of season

I think it was one of the best seasons wilko has had, he really stepped up this season as a leader but in saying that I still think wee mac was player of the year, he just looked a class above almost everyone in the a-league.
He had that much confidence on the ball and would almost always look to try and beat a player. I think season 2010-11 he was great, this season he took his game to another level

Dutchy does deserve it and I do agree that all the above had good seasons but I would add Rosytn to the list. I also think that if Rostyn had stayed that WeeMac would have had an even better year. After Rostyn left, Pedj - WeeMac's partner in crime down the right stayed deeper more often. Michael still tried to take people on - but often without Pedj there to cause the defence to second guess themselves. I don't know whether the stats back me up - but he seemed less effective after Rostyn left.

Now in judging Wee Mac for his leading assists(most from corners-set pieces) stat you have to ask were his contributions better than Pedj who with 2 goals and 6 assists (all from open play).
Personally I think Wee Mac overdid his dribbling and forced Pedj to hold up on a lot of forward runs however they are a formidible duo.

I think that was what I was getting at. When Pedj was moving forward earlier in the season it all sort of flowed. When WeeMac had to wait for him Pedj would make his run but WeeMac was still trying to dribble. It was a lot more natural and flowing when Rostyn was at DM and Pedj was further up the field to start with.

it really was a stellar individual and team performance this season. most of our players deserve plaudits when you think about how they played and their influence

most of the team has scored or assisted (even Ryan scored in a penalty shoot-out) and the defense was generally excellent

Another way to look at the season/value of our players is if we had to replace them.
For example I reckon we'd need 1&1/2 to 2 players to do the job Zwaanas does for us...
