FFA MediaUpdated: 15 mins ago
Football Federation Australia (FFA) today confirmed that the remainder of the Hyundai A-League 2019/20 regular season, and the Westfield W-League 2020 Grand Final scheduled for this weekend will go ahead, but with all matches to be played behind closed doors and with no fans permitted to attend. This policy will apply for the remaining six rounds of the Hyundai A-League 2019/20 regular season and will be reviewed for the Hyundai A-League 2020 Finals Series.
The decision by the Federal Government that all travellers to Australia arriving from today will have to self-isolate for a period of 14 days means that matches involving Melbourne Victory and Wellington Phoenix will not proceed in Rounds 24 and 25 of the Hyundai A-League. These matches will be re-scheduled and Wellington Phoenix will play all their matches in Australia for the remainder of the Hyundai A-League 2019/20 season.

FFA also confirmed that grassroots football, including all levels of the National Premier Leagues and FFA Cup Preliminary Rounds, may continue to be played at this time in line with Government advice, but with additional measures implemented to further reduce the risk of COVID-19 infection or transmission through the football community, including recommended hygiene measures and appropriate social distancing at football matches.
Watch a press conference with FFA's update in relation to COVID-19 below.

FFA Chief Executive Officer James Johnson said that the decisions taken were designed to protect the 1.96 million members of Australia’s football community, as well as ensure that football’s vast community would be a positive force in helping Australians remain healthy and combat the spread of the virus.
“The scale of football means that we have a key role to play in maintaining the health and well-being of Australians, as well as their families and the wider community. We are doing so by allowing people to play, in line with the current Government position but with additional guidance to further improve social distancing at football fields around the country.”
“We have been working closely with our stakeholders, Government health officials and our own chief medical officer to develop our policies for the whole of the game following the COVID-19 outbreak. The situation is subject to constant change, and further measures may be necessary in the future.”
Johnson added “The decision to play the remainder of the Hyundai A-League 2019/20 season, and the Westfield W-League 2020 Grand Final behind closed doors was made in consultation with the clubs and in accordance with the latest Federal Government advice.”
“The health and safety of all members of the football community, including players, coaches, referees, volunteers, administrators and fans continues to be of paramount importance. We will continue to work with the Government and seek advice as the situation changes.”
The National COVID-19 Working Committee will continue to meet and FFA will provide regular updates to the football community as the situation continues to develop.

I presume the NZ quarantine only applies if you stay in NZ. So they can leave there but are then quarantined in Australia?

Most likely situation is that contractually the situation is different if the government forces them to stop rather than the FFA/clubs making that call. Tomorrow nights games might go ahead but anything beyond that looks pretty uncertain and barriers to state travel make WA and SA problematic meaning at least 2 more team relocations if they are allowed to proceed.

FFA acknowledges AOC communications regarding Tokyo Games

Football Federation Australia (FFA) today acknowledged the Australian Olympic Committee’s (AOC) communications that athletes should prepare for a Tokyo Olympic Games in the northern summer of 2021, due to the evolving COVID-19 situation globally.
The AOC’s advice came after the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced a potential postponement of this year’s Games, and changes in the public health landscape both in Australia and internationally.
FFA supports the AOC and IOC to make a final decision in the coming days or weeks regarding the Tokyo Games which ensures athlete welfare and that football can continue to act as a good and responsible citizen in collective efforts to reduce the spread of COVID-19 both domestically and abroad.
The FFA will also continue to work with all relevant parties including FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) as to the implications of such a decision.
Australia’s two eligible football teams – the Australian U-23 men’s national football team and the Matildas – secured qualification for the Tokyo Games earlier in January and March this year respectively.
When the dates of a potentially rescheduled Tokyo Games are known, FFA will work with its national teams unit and the AOC to plan the best possible preparations for its sides.
Until that time, FFA together with Professional Footballers Australia (PFA) will continue to offer support and assistance to footballers nationally and internationally subject to their individual situations and the effects that they may be experiencing due to the COVID-19 situation.

Maybe - NBN is reporting all teams may be moving to NSW

If it closes - which I think is just as likely will what will be the hit for CCMFC. Given that we have finished 115 of 130 games at this stage then I would think that the FFA grant may be cut by around $370,000 down to around $2.83M.

What it means for next season may mean a future without Fix

The post game coverage confirmed it, they’ll be suspending the season and realistically I can’t see them coming back to it.

Post game coverage really bummed me out. No A league, no local season starting. This sucks.

Football Federation Australia has reportedly proposed a rapid 32 matches in 36 days to complete the 2019-20 A-League season.

The remaining matches will commence on July 18 and culminate in the grand final on August 22, according to a report in The Daily Telegraph.
All matches would be played in a 'single hub', either in Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane.
However, host broadcaster Fox Sports needs to sign off on the plan and both Professional Footballers Australia (PFA) and the clubs would have to come to a pay agreement for the players.

Further hurdles include agreements around expiring contracts - more than 100 players are free agents from June 1 - and health and hygiene measures.
It is unlikely that fans will be able to attend any of these matches, although that could change if government restrictions and guidelines are eased.

Fox reportedly want to cut the remaining 3 years by a total of around $86M to give the go ahead. Time to produce our own content and sell separately.
