R5 v City away

I don't think we've been overly bad, City are quite good tbf

Yeah this.

Finally saw the game. Sigh.

Flat and just not winning the second ball or moving it quick enough. But credit to City, Mombaerts is doing a great job.

We lost the midfield battle tonight. Brillante, Griffiths, Metcalfe, Noone, over powered us in the engine room. That said, was far from a million miles between us. I think Sammy (not surprisingly for a young player) was not at his best tonight and gave away a lot of ball. But TBF he and Oar were trying to hold it up against much bigger players like Good, Delbridge, Griffiths and Brillante and it didn't work. We struggled to hold it up and maintain field position. Though we still played some good patches and had a reasonable amount of chances.

Moving forward, really not sure in regards to what starting 11 best for us to score consistently.

Adelaide are an even more physical side so there are big decisions to make this week.

I’d like to see us stick with the plan as long as it’s a dry night. Maybe some tweaks but overall I think it can work for us. If it’s wet we need something a bit more traditional and conservative. No reason we can’t get a win but we’ll need to work for it.

Bringing Simon back in to hold and pass or just win the first ball when we can't pass through might work. We did well against them until he got sent off in the cup.

God I hope not. Every time he is on the pitch we look like we’ve given up on attacking. If you want to play a more conservative game chuck Muzz on to round up the wide long ball with a 4231 and try to bring the 3 in to it and save Silvera for 60-65mins when some legs get heavy.

Hearing DDS and Oar might be out (sorry if mentioned above) will require changes regardless
One would leave us worse but we could manage, two of them would really suck. Not sure when we find out about the U23 squad or is that what you mean with DDS? I’m assuming you’re talking about injury.

Yeah good point. Mombaerts obviously watched Perth, and chose to press us hard forcing longer aerial balls that they could easily handle and also sat tight and out muscled our our fast but small forwards for the most part. And the wet didn’t help either.

Not sure Jair would have fared any better in that game. We needed a Keogh or Toivonen type striker to cope with that or we had to do a lot more running and move the ball much quicker - which was probably too much to ask after a short turn around in Perth. Matty could have held it up for us but without speed our attack still would have been ineffective.

City literally showed exactly what we needed to do in their second half, first half we were composed and tight and hard to break down - second half they ran more and moved the ball much quicker and created space to attack.
