Monty uses these to rotate players, build fitness and get everyone into the pattern of how we play. With a few new and a lot of youth he'd have thrown them in the deep end and not cared at all about the result.

Disappointing result but I suspect the schedule for this match was deliberately designed to mimic returning late midweek from an AFC Cup game and having to back up at the weekend for an ALM game.

Monty deliberately played the boys fatigued against $ity last pre season iirc.

During the shit years we beat the best teams in pre season, the result doesn’t matter this early. Getting fit without injuries and gelling is paramount.

Also in the Smith article Mont is purposely playing them fatigued to prepare for AFC mid week games. We have had great pre seasons only to then be ordinary in the actual season. We have a forward thinking manager with a plan, I’m on board.

It’s hard but I’ll trust the process. Would have been nice to make it through another round of Aus cup to see a more accurate picture.
