ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Possible Marquees

Given that

1) this season has to be a season that we re-establish ourselves
2) MC, while saying we will operate at the floor of the cap, is open to a marquee if there is a business case where he doesn't have to reach into his pocket again
3) the FFA are supposedly going to come to the party for clubs from their 'Marquee Fund'. I suspect that means it must be a real marquee i.e Dwight, Fowler, ADP level.

My concern is that each club will be looking to lift again. Wellington have already made a couple of important signings. Newcastle, if they are sold to the Ledman group, will undoubtedly spend up big as their proposed new owner has already targeted competing in Asia. The rest of the comp were out of sight from where we ended.

In my mind, even if we strengthen the defence and midfield, we really need to bolster the front line to give Roy a hand. This is the area that I would be targeting.

Is there someone out there that we could target that would suit our club? I loved having King Luis here and it probably helped in mentoring the kids. However, if we dip into that pond again it has to be for someone that is playing regularly and producing in a league that is comparable or better than the A League.

This is where connections with Luis and Harry as well as Peter Storrie's network can be utilised.

Rob Green is off contract and known to both of them

Possibly Joe Cole even

Just signed for Tampa Bay Rowdies. As for Green, similar to Sorenson I don't think the FFA would stump out for a keeper unless they were of the calibre of Casillas , Buffon or Neuer. Keepers unfortunately aren't seen as important as strikers or attacking mids

What are the rules for visa and marquees? Are they in the visa count or are they outside?

I think they are included as Visa players- but Monty and Fab will both be able to become citizens before the start of the season.

Dirk Kuyt about to turn 36 but playing in the Eredivisie for Feyenoord. 28 goals and 5 assists in 38 games. Off contract at the end of June. Two years younger than Luis and still playing at a high level. Also can be a pest in the same way that Roy is chasing down defenders.

Tis getting harder with the J-League, K-League, China, MLS and now India, all looking for marquees. I don't think we could afford Dwight York today ... plus if Indonesia as has been some recent press speculation also enters in the marquee buying as well. That will make it all that harder..
