It’s finally official. The Perth Bears will become the NRL’s 18th team, with the new franchise to join the competition in 2027 — and there’s a chance they will interchange players with Super Rugby team Western Force.

Flanked by NRL CEO Andrew Abdo and ARL Comission boss Peter V’landys, WA Premier Roger Cook made the announcement on Thursday at the Bears’ home ground at HBF Park in the heart of the city.

The historic announcement means the Bears badge and colours will return from a 27-year exile after North Sydney became a victim of the reunification between Super League and the Australian Rugby League.

I think he was more referring to slops as the reluctance of the coast to embrace the north manly bear eagles.

If it was a proper north Sydney bears with a CCS/ NSO split it would be more palatable (ideally play at NSO during the overlap with the a league and at CCS from may to August).

My wife was a bears fan too. She followed QLD because of the bears players. If only i knew this treason before kissing her.

.But it’s not the bears as they are known to her or others. Same colours sure but it’s lipstick.
They should of had a brand new name IMO. But i see what they were hoping for.
If they ever move the Mariners would you consider it the same and follow? I probably wouldn’t.

Hope you enjoy them but i think many North Sydney fans are lost.

I can see it as an attempt to be like the Sydney Swans with there South Melbourne history.

I think Coasties also wanted there own team but were happy to get any RL. It’s a big RL area as we know. Lots of passionate fans
