FourFourTwo reporting that Giancarlo Gallifuoco might be keen to come home. I hope we're in that discussion. 21yo, big club experience but needs to give his career a fresh spark.

We've another year with Bosnar - my hope would be we get someone like Gallifuoco for a couple of years and when Bosnar's deal runs out at the end of the season we make a play for Wilko.

News reporting we are close to signing a 23 to wiz from England ... A price catch is the headline

His name is Adam Dawson

There really better be something good to that bloke, considering he's spent most of the last few years bouncing around Conference (and lower!) teams...

I Have been reading a bit about him. Seems to have ok abilities but has never nailed a first team sport down and got into a bit of bad cycle of being loaned out to too many clubs. Hopefully with a bit of stability with regular training at one club we can get the best out of him. He will be competing with Fabio and Fitzy though so he will have a big task ahead of him.

Walmsley talks about Everton and also this “We’re looking at three players — one visa player and two Aussies. The one Australian is overseas and the other is playing in Australia.”

TONY Walmsley has been on a recruiting mission in the UK and it looks like the Mariners coach will be bringing a highly-rated English midfielder back with him when he returns to the Central Coast.

The club is believed to be close to agreeing terms with Leicester City youngster Adam Dawson, who spent two years in Liverpool’s youth setup, before signing a professional contract with Wigan Athletic.
Dawson, 23, is an exciting talent who can attack and create chances for those around him.
“He has a high pedigree and a lot of high level development behind him,” Walmsley said.

“If you’re a young player in an English Premier League squad, England is a very tough gig. You’ve got Championship clubs that want the finished product and EPL teams who won’t give them an opportunity. This type of quality player is filtered down either out on loan and, in this particular case, we’ve probably got somebody who we can really define and put them right back up there.”
Part of Walmsley’s trip was also spent at Everton, who the Mariners have formed a partnership with, working out how best to get some of the EPL club’s youngsters out on loan to Gosford.
It’s a mutually beneficial relationship, with the Mariners offering competitive matches to players who need the game time.
“The point of the trip was to catch up with Everton and establish a firmer footing with them and that’s gone really well as well,” Walmsley said.

“The challenge there will be one of timing. There are a lot of issues with the Under-21 league in England and a club like Everton are having difficulty getting the value from the competition in terms of it really pushing their players the way they want it to. For the partnership with us to be worthwhile to Everton they need their players to be playing games. A 20-year-old with very little first team experience, it’s difficult to find the right player who is age eligible and fits the gaps in our squad, is where the challenges are. The intent is there, (Everton coach) Roberto Martinez is supportive, he’s bought into it and it’s now about timing. Long-term it will be a fruitful relationship.”
The Mariners have signed young goalkeeper Paul Izzo from Adelaide United after elevating Matthew Nash to the role of goalkeeping coach and Walmsley says the next priority will be to secure a centre-back.
“We’re looking at three players — one visa player and two Aussies. The one Australian is overseas and the other is playing in Australia.”

If we sign McGrath and Dawson we're down to needing one more defender.

The Everton connection? There's been a few names bandied about but think we must be close to the squad taking shape. If Dawson and McGrath are nearly on board that takes the squad to 21? Add One or 2 from Everton (1 cb & 1 striker) and maybe Callum Richardson (CB) and that's it.

We're on 19 already. Dawson and McGrath take us to 21 and there's room for only two more, isn't there?

That's assuming we have cap space left. We're also up to 3 visa players too (Montgomery, Ferreira, O'Donovan), so there's only room for two more foreigners.

That said, of the 19 we've got, 6 are 21 or under and you can pull some sort of clever trick with signing additional young players to boost your maximum squad size.

Tony Walmsley as former Sheffield United youth coach and the Everton connection seems to be well placed to grab some players in the Champions league and League One or on loan EPL players who have just not nailed a first team place.

His style of recruiting and openness pertaining to how he is making his decisions impresses me.

His statements where he says, “without regulation why would you not play to attack and entertain”, all sound good for the year ahead.

The team is starting to look [he says on bended knee and maybe with more hope than wisdom] a bit like Arnie’s team were the team as a whole and a unit were very strong.

Looking forward to the season we could be the surprise team just gotta get the games away from Sunday for next season.

I wouldn't be surprised to see no Everton signings, or 1 at the most, at this point in the cycle, but expect so mid-season or next -
Just from the tone of Walmsley here: "The challenge there will be one of timing. I'm ok with this, and our recruitment in general. Looking forward to seeing us in action. Damm shame it's so long until game time (thank you FFA cup however!) but we need that time to build the fitness, understanding and flow, so in many ways the more time the better

I think we have signed additional young players before so hoping they can increase the squad size by a couple. Think we still need a couple of CB's and another striker. The midfield is looking pretty strong.

I agree
Also sounds like the age restrictions might be an issue. He specifically says "who is age eligible " there was a rumour of 19yr old from Everton but that didn't meat the FFA's visa player rules or something, does that mean FFA have said no and Everton want to loan out 18-20yrs old so might take time to set up and since that reduces the field a little would mean we might be more picky and especially now with our squad almost full. So yeah maybe next year imo

Apparently 18 and 19 year olds from OS are blocked by the FFA. The CB in question is 19 with a very bright future. Peter Storrie has taken it to the FFA arguing that the anyone at 20 from a top level EPL club will be in or around the first team squad if they are going to make it and wouldn't be released. These are people that can add value to the league at a relative low cost.

It's a silly and knee jerk response rule really (for those that don't know it was brought in because of Brisbane a couple years back signing some very average young Indonesian players because of the Bakrie group). As the rule is a A-League club club couldn't sign someone such as Neymar or Raheem Sterling because apparently being a below 20 year old non Aussie negates your ability to play football. The rule really either needs a vetting process through the FFA or to be got rid of all together.

Gallifuoco please!

Giancarlo Gallifuoco:
Looks outstanding as a DM, (most of the clip showed him sitting in front of the back 4 - in a 442 formation) Lots of very 'cultured' through-balls, has a good eye for knowing where to direct the next attack.

Would like to see a bit more footage of him as a CB though , as thats what we really need.
