Jedinak claims top honours at Medal Dinner
:vhappy: :vhappy: :vhappy: :vhappy: :vhappy:

Central Coast Mariners midfield lynchpin Mile Jedinak has been nominated by his team-mates as the most outstanding player of the Mariners third Hyundai A-League campaign and as such, collected the 2008 Mariners Medal at the Mingara Recreation Club this evening.

Jedinak was an unquestioned standout of the Mariners charge towards the Hyundai A-League Premiership in 2007/08 and started all but two of the Central Coasts Pre-Season Cup, regular season and Finals Series matches 27 appearances in total.

Some of the highlights of those appearances were a pair of stunning long range strikes one from a free kick against Sydney FC before Christmas and a second from even greater distance against the Melbourne Victory on New Years Eve.

In addition to Jedinaks Mariners Medal success, the latter of the aforementioned strikes was officially recognised as the Central Coasts best goal of the season, as voted by the Marinators, the Mariners unofficial supporters group.

"Mile, among many of our playing group this season, has had an outstanding campaign and is fully deserving of this recognition," said Mariners Executive Chairman Lyall Gorman.

"Mile came to the club on a full-time basis in the off-season and, to be fair, we always expected big things from a player that we had identified as one of Australias most exciting emerging talents.

"From the opening day of the season to last Sundays Grand Final, Mile has not once disappointed and everyone at the club is so proud of what he has been able to achieve this season and equally as excited as to what the future holds for this very special player."

Other awards on the evening went to striker and Major Semi Final hero Sasho Petrovski, whose eight goals over the course of the Hyundai A-League regular season and Finals Series earned him the Golden Boot prize the third successive club Golden Boot Petrovski has won since the inception of the Hyundai A-League.

Mariners match day volunteer Steve Frame was presented with the Chairmans Award by Executive Chairman Gorman, who recognised Frames outstanding contribution to the club throughout the season.

"We must recognise the contribution of Sasho his eight goals throughout the season were absolutely vital to the club achieving the success that it did and, indeed, its important to remember that nearly all of Sashos goals were ultimately match winners for us," said Gorman.

"As for Steve, he has been at the club in a volunteer capacity since day one and has been instrumental in ensuring the smooth running of our match days and on every occasion has worked in an exceptionally professional manner that exemplifies the goodwill of our local community."

With the conclusion of the third annual Mariners Medal Dinner, the curtain has been closed on the Mariners Hyundai A-League 2007/08 season, one that the club and its Members and supporters alike will remember as their most successful to date.

Jedi is THE modern midfield player. Whether Pim realises that first or a Euro club scouting out here sees him, it's just a matter of which comes first. He is destined for big things.

Couldn't agree more with Brett. It's a real feelgood story our Jedi. From Sydney United to Mariners player of the year in a season and a half is massive. A huge achievement.

If he keeps up this rate of improvement, he'll be knocking on Vinnie's door in 18-24 months.

Very well deserved award for Mile. Congrats!

His dedication to holding down the centre mid role is phenominal, and most folks I've spoken to seem to have the same view. I reckon if he can keep his yellow card count down, and improve his technique a fraction, he's a shoe in for the Socceroos.

Im gonna say its not the players that you spend millions on that win titles. Its the players that are under the cap, those that work hard and work together well and those that form the backbone: Jedinak, Boogaard, Hutch, Wilko and Danny are what won us the premiership and they will win us many more in the future

Show me a Marquee player who actually won a title for their club this year.

Griffiths, Holland, Sasho, Jedi the list goes on
