ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Coast Move Into Sydney's North

Dec 11 2007 01:37

EXCLUSIVE: The Mariners' expansion plans ramped up today with the A-League club signing a partnership agreement with a large football association in Sydney's north.
With the Central Coast's Socceroo icons John Aloisi, Tony Vidmar and Alex Tobin on hand for the announcement, this was further proof of the A-League leader's intent to become a national force.

Tobin said the partnership with Manly Warringah football association was another important step for the club and had plusses for the north shore of Sydney.

We look forward to the partnership reaping benefits on and off the field for both Manly Warringah and the Mariners. Long may it reign, said the club's' football development manager.

We hope to help young players in the area and boost the connection between the grassroots here and the Mariners."

While the partnership is not an exclusive one for the association, the agreement gives the Mariners and their sponsors access to the association's 16,000 registered members.

We'll work on synergies at the grassroots level whether it's management structures, media, sponsorship or indeed with the developmental pathway for players, Jeremy Toivonen, general manager of the Manly Warringah football association, told au.fourfourtwo.com.

The MWFA will enjoy access to high level coaching for their players, promotional tie ins and a pathway for its young stars.

The area's elite senior team, Manly United, play in the NSW premier league with home games at Cromer Park. Most notably, the region has produced national team players such as Nikolai Topor-Stanley and Lucas Neill.

Mariners would have to be one of the most 'pro active' in this arena. Other clubs should be taking a leaf out of their book and someone from Sydney FC should get the sack for not having done it in V1!

No they shouldnt, they should be applauded for showing arrogance and no grasp on what the general football public want and that is to feel wanted and have a sense of belonging to a club and so far thats what the mariners have done made anyone feel welcome regardless of you address. Our club doesnt need to be told twice where opportunities lie.

it is great the club is doing this but does it actually bring any new fans in? i cant imagine people from manly going up to gosford to watch a football game... i guess its purely accessing a bigger player pool to identify new talent?

I guess there would be some Mariners fans on the insular peninsula as a remain from the days of Northern Spirit FC (R.I.P), just as there are Mariners fans across the North Shore, Northern Suburbs area from the days of Northern Spirit.
Also the chance to get new supporters from these areas through player visits to presentation days etc, and as you mentioned a wider scope for player scouting. :)

i know there are fans that travel from hornsby, normanhurst, turramurra etc to follow the mighty yellow... its good to see that we have that kind of support, they could have easily supported sydney.. but they arent that thick.

When you look at the local support the Mariners get, and hear the applause people give Matt Simon and Brad Porter get when they go on the field or do something well in the game - from folks who have seen them play up through the ranks of CC Football - then yes, we will pick up followers of any player that may end in the Mariners from the MWFA.

Sydney haven't exactly endeared themselves to these local associations in their 3 years of establishment, but the Mariners have had to develop strategies to do this in our CC region, so are getting pretty good at it!

Would love to see the day that the Mariners have all the northern and western associations in Sydney tied up and throttle the life out of Sydney's talent pool. How many partnerships do we have now? I think we have Gladesville and Blacktown as well don't we?

If there are a reasonable number of fans from the Lower Central Coast who travel up from the N Shore/Peninsula, maybe the club should look to try to organise some sort of travel arrangements??

The Mariners 'Express' trains offered by City Rail are (mostly) an excellent choice (unless like Ursus you live at the end of the F3), and allow much socialising (read drinking) before the game in the Kendall.
:grouphug:
The only problem is the 7pm games on weekends which inhibit much socialising afterwards.

Im guessing as the player pool from the northern beaches is being recruited, they will encourage their friends and family to come and see them and this could mean more fans from that region

this is clearly a good thing but i would hate to see the 'Central Coast' ever dropped from the club's name. I'm not aware that there has ever been any talk of that but commercially if we were just 'The Mariners' it would be accessible to people from outside the region. Having said that i suppose it doesn't stop people here supporting Leeds or whatever, it just becomes your club?

No worries.
I have always said the Central Coast runs from North Head to Nobby's.

Nope - they have all been sacked. And a few players should be after tonight's debacle.
