Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Pretty much tells us all we need to know. We certainly had an NPL side for the last few years

no it doesn’t, who out of that list we’re playing week in week out? They’re all former youth players for us.
If anything it shows the extremely flawed youth system in this country. 95% of an NYL team won’t be given a professional contract. Because their simply isn’t enough room or money in the game.

John Roberts would be due retirement now wouldn’t he, given his age?

Agree Michael, although if you look at both the lists there are about 20 out of 50 who played or got some game time in the A League.

You can also add a number who are playing NPL in Victoria, Qld, Northern NSW and ACT and the numbers are up to about 30 A League from a total of about 80.

Even more telling are the number of Ex-CCM players playing elsewhere in the A League. For example last season's A League Grand Final between Sydney FC and Melbourne City which featured 10 ex-CCM players (5 on each side including all 4 goalkeepers. That is more telling as to where we've been over the past few seasons judging by the calibre of players that have left or were let go and how poorly managed we've been.

I think that applies to most academies around the world. The % who make it is very small I believe

Yeah even if you have a look at clubs academies at the top of the food chain in world football, there aren't particularly many who go on to have professional contracts.

I meant there’s an even slimmer chance here mainly because of the age cap. 21 being to old is a joke. The amount of very decent prospects being let go from aleague clubs every year because of it is embarrassing and killing our national team hopes in years to come, players get let go then drop into some level of NPL and more often than not lose any love of the game.
(although the amount of young players proving themselves this season is delightful to see)
atleast in England in particular they have very well set up U23 leagues. 2 more years to prove themselves and improve in general.
