Our humble website has gone through a bit of a rollercoaster over the years, and we have seen all sorts of things on the forum - in the early seasons I regularly heard about how bad the forum was, how there was too much "shit" talked about, too much negativity (mainly aimed at certain players or the coach) and the club didn't want to know about us. The last couple of seasons saw a drop-off in the number of posts being made, but a huge jump in the quality, and even though you could probably say the on-field results had a big impact in the "positivity" going around, even when we had a bad run things didn't descend into the shit-fights of the past... mostly.
So on that note, I want to give everyone a friendly reminder to please be familiar with our website rules, and a few things to keep in mind before posting.
1. Legal Issues
If you are considering posting information that may potentially attract legal action, please do not. This site is a Central Coast Mariners fan site, it is run on donated server space, donated web development time, and does not generate any money. We cannot (and should not have to) afford solicitors fees should any legal action be taken due to something that was posted. A little common sense should be used before posting something that should not be put into the public domain.
2. Spirit of the Site
As mentioned, this is a Central Coast Mariners fan site, not a Central Coast Mariners hate site. The world is not all peaches and cream, rainbows and puppy dogs (etc. etc.), but it also isn't all doom and gloom. Things might not always look perfect on the surface - in fact it might look exactly the opposite - but please consider others before posting negative, hateful, depressing, world (aka CCMFC) ending predictions, or anything else that serves no purpose other than a 'therapeutic' venting. This is not the place for those sorts of shenanigans; that's what your Facebook status is for.
3. Rumours
Rumours spread around like wildfire - especially via twitter - and some people just get a kick out of making shit up, so keep that in mind before getting hysterical. That's not to say don't discuss rumours (or even start some
), just keep points 1 and 2 in mind when doing so.
4. Discussions, Debates, Arguments
The main purpose of the discussion board is (strangely enough) to have discussions. Some people will agree with what you say, some people will disagree, so keep this in mind when posting. If you are considering posting something that you don't want anyone to disagree with, or you are unwilling to explain (if you are vague) or elaborate at all on what you have said, please do not post.
I feel a bit silly posting all this because most people get it, it's just the 1% who don't that tend to be the most disruptive.
Over the years we have had various different styles and functionality on the site, and are still working out what suits our audience best. The main purpose of the site is NOT to just be another forum. Work on the Season 7 site didn't get completed (for various reasons) so plans and partially developed features got pushed back to season 8, but that is another topic for discussion at a later date.
I'll end this post with a massive thank you for those who have stuck with us, kept posting within the spirit of the site, and helped keep the site running smoothly. The site would not be the same without the (mostly unrewarded) efforts of our moderating team, so thanks for keeping things ship shape. As it's the off-season now, things will quiet down (unless the current rumours are to believed, then we are going to have a hell of a few months ahead of us!) but things are still plodding along behind the scenes, so keep an eye out as we head into the next season for site updates, and.... stuff!
