On Boxing Day 1963, Fulham defeated Ipswich Town 10-1 to rack up what has remained the last double figure score in English top-flight football. And there hasn't been a double figure score in league football since 1987.

The 1963-64 season saw 5 London clubs represented in the old First Division- Tottenham, Chelsea, Arsenal, West Ham and Fulham. But it was the North-West which held down the top three places in the league- Liverpool, Manchester United and Everton.

Everton had won the league the previous season, and were already synonymous with class through the football world. Oh to have that today, eh?

In those years all the London clubs in the top flight had skill players running the show- Fulham had Johnny Haynes, Spurs had John White, Arsenal had George Eastham, Chelsea had Terry Venables, etc.

The elegant schemer tradition is a long one at Arsenal. Bloomfield, Eastham, Brady... and now Fabregas.
