ABC 'SET TO SHOW A-LEAGUE':
The ABC are set to show Saturday night football on their main channel in a TV rights coup for football in Australia, says the Daily Telegraph.
Fox Sports and the national broadcaster are in talks to finalise a deal for the 5.15 game to be shown live on the ABC's main channel every Saturday night for the first time in A-League history.
Recent free to air A-League TV deals have only seen 10 and SBS broadcast matches on their subsidiary channels to a limited audience, but W-League games on the ABC regularly attracted higher viewing figures than A-League games on Fox Sports.
And hopes are high the move to ABC primetime could help revitalise the competition this year.
It comes as A-League owners and the FFA finalise the deal to formally separate.
A completed deal was supposed to have been signed off by August 1 but the legal details are still being pored over before the handover can be done.
However Paul Lederer – Western Sydney Wanderers owner and chairman of the Australian Professional Football Clubs Association taking over the A-League – today insisted the deal would be done before the season starts, despite concerns state member federations were blocking the move.
"The FFA, the PFA, the states and us have all agreed," he said at the launch of the new WSW HQ in Blacktown. "There is no disagreement. It's a matter of putting it down on paper.
"There's been lots of discussions and lots of different views – but at the moment, no issues with the state federations. They've got on board and things are good.
"It's time. It's very important. The FFA have done a great job over the years but it's time for the separation. It's time for us to let us run our own game or our own race."
Lederer also promised fans would see the launch of a high profile marketing campaign to further help put the A-League back on the map.
"The marketing campaign will be very extensive," he promised. "More than the FFA. And the financial commitment to the game from the clubs will be significantly more.
"Because all of a sudden the owners can see the light at the end of the tunnel. They're going to say, 'Right, we're going to invest. It's our game, it's our thing.'
"It's different psychologically and in reality."

The ABC can reveal Football Federation Australia (FFA) will demand up-and-coming forward Lachlan Wales, young defender Nathaniel Atkinson and midfielders Brandon Wilson and Riley McGree explain their alleged behaviour, under a formal "show cause" process.
McGree, who has recently signed a three-year contract with Adelaide United, is captain of the national under-23 side.
The show-cause process — which provides the players with an opportunity to respond to the FFA's findings — follows an ABC investigation that uncovered a complaint lodged earlier this year to Sport Australia, the nation's rebranded sports commission, through a freedom of information enquiry.
The four players, members of Australia's under-23 'Olyroos' team, were in Phnom Penh at the end of March as they sought qualification for next year's Olympics.
The young players may be in breach of the FFA code of conduct, which requires players to:
At all times behave in a manner that promotes and upholds the highest standards of integrity, dignity and professionalism;Comply with any team protocol and procedures, including in relation to alcohol, curfews and inappropriate relationships; andNot act in a manner contrary to the best interests of the team.
The FFA has not confirmed the precise nature of the four players' behaviour, the findings of its investigation, or what prompted the Sport Australia complaint.
The night out came after Australia blew a two-goal lead to draw with South Korea in its final match of the tournament in March.
'Complex' investigation:
The incident has only just come to light because it took months to investigate, due to its "complexity", the FFA told the ABC.
That inquiry delivered findings to the FFA board on October 3, which resulted in the show causes being issued.
"This follows an extensive, independently run investigation into a complaint received by the FFA," the FFA said in a statement.
"The investigation was initiated shortly after the complaint was received and, due to its complexity, took months to complete. The FFA board considered the findings of the investigation on October 3 and the board subsequently determined that the show-cause process should proceed."
Sport Australia is set up to receive complaints about Australian sports programs, but refers complaints made against a sport to the relevant sporting organisation.
When asked to clarify the status of the complaint, a spokesperson for Sport Australia stated the organisation, "has no public comment at this point".
Despite its name, the Olympic Stadium in Phnom Penh has never hosted an Olympic Games.
Cambodian risks:
The Smart Traveller website urges Australians in Cambodia to be wary of theft, sexual assault and "accepting invitations from strangers".
The FFA has offered the players counselling and is in contact with Professional Footballers Australia (PFA), the union representing footballers.
PFA chief executive John Didulica said his organisation, "is aware of an incident raised in relation to its members".
"As an independent investigation and subsequent disciplinary proceedings remain active, it would be entirely inappropriate and prejudicial to comment further on the matter," he said.
"Obviously, the players will continue to cooperate with the FFA throughout the process."
No consular assistance was provided to any player, according to a spokesperson for the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
Previous breaches of the code of conduct by other players and coaches have prompted fines and suspensions.
The under-23 side returns to South-East Asia in January for the Asian championship. The top three teams at that tournament qualify for the Olympics.

Football Federation Australia have confirmed that the Hyundai A-League Competition Regulations have been amended to allow clubs to add up to an extra two players on the substitute bench subject to conditions.
FFA Head of Leagues Greg O'Rourke said that this update to the Hyundai A-League Competition Regulations will help with the development of young footballers in the Hyundai A-League.
“This initiative is designed to promote opportunities for U-23 players from Australia for all Hyundai A-League clubs based in Australia and for Wellington Phoenix an opportunity for both U23 Australian and New Zealand players.
“It allows clubs an advantage of up to 7 substitutes should they have 3 x U-23 players on the match day starting list.
“It is envisaged that this initiative will provide clubs with the opportunity to include more young players in the match day squad and, by extending the number of players on the bench, will also allow the coaching staff more options on game day.
“We expect to see teams both home and away take advantage of this change in policy from Round 1.
“The ability to get more game time for our younger players is critical to their development both as Hyundai A-League players and also for National team selection.
“I would like to thank the FFA Board for considering this amendment and approving for the upcoming Hyundai A-League season,” concluded O’Rourke.
