Andre Gumprecht

I have heard that Andre Gumprecht won't be resigned next season. I can't understand why. He is one of the most popular players in the Mariners. He always has time for an autograph and plays a good game.
He has been with them since the beginning. I have spoken to a lot of people about this and they all say the same thing they don't know why he wouldn't be resigned and will be following whatever team he will play for. I think it would be a bad decision to let him go.  :-[

Andre is on a high wage, is getting older, has lost his spot, has battled with injuries over the past 2 years and tbh I think the money can be better used.

His personality and things he does off the field for the Mariners are spectacular, but it's on the field too that you have to think of..........depends what his asking price would be?

firstly i would like to express my absolute ANGER  :fireup:for this to happen. (IF IT DOES)

i really do belive that because Andre has been injured they have used this as an oppertunity to get rid of him. Now i really dont think the losing of one of your play makers is the thinking of great minds. If you wanted to get rid of someone for any reason they do need to know why they are getting rid of them in the first place.

I can think of a few players in the squad that should be put before Andre. (i must say that i am a huge mariners fan) Nik Mrdja has only played a handful of games for the mariners, recently had knee operation. Now he IS a great striker, BUT INJURY PRONE. So you let your play maker go (Andre) and keep an injury prone striker and baby sit him for a few years.
Andre may only have a couple of years left, but you know they Will be filled with quality. You know that we are full of scoring oppertunites with andre playing the roving unpredictable centre mid role, NOT the static up and down the feild straight lined attacks we are currently playing.

I CANNOT BELIVE THT THEY ARE THINKING OF DOING THIS.....

to "DJ" that posted eariler today ---- you think he money can be better used ! then they should be digging into those players that are not pulling the weight. Nik Mrdja yes he has more injuries than anyone. i know that andre is getting on but he has a greater impact on the team than most. If you push that aside then im sure it WILL take a long long time to fill andre's postion. With andre there he can pass on the quality he has to a younger player as Byrnes was purchased for.
He will play more games than most, being a professional sportsman injuries come with the job. But if your injured for long periods then is hard to stay employed in you job. Andre has not been injured for long periods, they are just not selecting him for some reason.

i really hope its not so we can sign dwight yorke, dwight is a legend of the game and he has done some amazing things in the game of football. But we have john aloisi, and if they sign dwight john will go. Along with a couple of other mariners wel all love. I guess it maybe starting with Andre.

CENTRE MID IS THE ENGINE ROOM OF THE TEAM !!!!!!!

no offence, but are you a mariners supporter, or an andre supporter? who comes first? i know for me its certainly the mighty yellow and navy, and i'll support them no matter what course of action they choose to take. now, don't get me wrong, i rate andre as a very good player, he's quality, and has done wonderful things for the club. but you cant forget we also have players like mile jedinak, johnny hutchinson, tom pondjelak, all capable of playing in a central role in midfield (okay, the last 2 i mentioned arent really the same style as andre, but fantastic nonetheless). I would be very sad to see him go, however if it's what the club decides, then so be it.
I'm Mariners Till I Die, right.

It's just my opinion.........as I said he's a role model to this club, but every single Mariners fan wants to win on and off the field, if Andre goes then Lawrie obviously thinks he can no longer deliver on it!

Agree on Mrdja too thou, he's been injury prone since day 1 almost, plus I don't believe he has the right mentality for the team, would be very happy to see him go as I don't believe his knee is going to get any better.  His salary could score us a very handy attacking midfielder to challenge or replace Tommy.

CM is the engine room yes, Andre has not played there once this year and we are top of the league........is he still needed?

Given that you've based most of your rant on this sentence, there is a simple question - why do you think this?

Do you presume that they don't see the good work he does, or that there is some grudge held against him by people within the club? Do you think football isn't the reason why players are selected?

i was once like that but now i see that there is nothing he is bringing. he has been awesome for this club for most of his time here but i get the feeling his contribution as a player is ending. i hope his experience as a coach and a buissnessman can be applied to the club in someway or another

I would love to  see Andre stay on, but he is getting older and whatnot. I do hope he still manages to stay involved in the A-league though.

Spot on
I think, if he agreed a reduced contract, he could still fill a spot with the club as a squad player (there would be worse options out there to have on the bench when hit with an injury crisis), but other than that, its not looking good for him :(
Very sad day when he goes. Whoever he signs for, he will always be welcome at the stadium.

Unless its the  Jets  ;D

We are looking to be in a position of possibly playing in Asia and that will lead many players to our door.
Leaving sentiment aside the Mariners are a business and if an employee isnt holding their own they will be let go and this will happen for the life of our club.
I love Gumps the man, playing wise hes been good value but the times are a changing and our squad will change with them.

The only reasons i can see Gumps going is if we want to sign 4 overseas players but that is unlikely or if we are to replace him with an AIS or Academy graduate because we dont need another 4-star versatile, fighting yet creative midfielder we have enough of them

Gumps traded for 4 (four) O'seas players!
What The?

I wasn't aware that crack smoking was a popular past-time on the coast.

"4" O'seas players, playing on Andres contract $$'s, divided by "4", would also have to be smoking crack if they accepted that sought of coin.  ::)

I ment my sentance as in if we had released a few other players aswell and had bought 3 overseas players but needed one more to fit the bill.

Crack i don't think is popular pastime on the coast but it darn sure is in tassie :p

Last game of the regular season against Wellington I think we need GAD - Gumps Appreciation Day!

Maybe Grumps could move into local radio sports person, we should call local stations went talk back is on say we need football, likeable person on air, given we are the only national team on the coast. Also Grumps to keep on coaching

It will be a sad day to see him go but you cant have players lasting until they are 50 simply for the sake of sentiment. Although I hope he stays at the club in another role.

If gumps playing career with us ends it will be to play somewhere else I cant see him hanging up the boots to assume some coaching role given we have 3 handy men at the healm and people talk of Viddy assisting somewhere.
I cant see him hanging around to fill an impact player role.

You are probably right, he still isnt that old, although this league may be beyond him these days

gees this has got people so fired up lol
my five cents: im with dj and bear i think if he took a reduced package and perhaps took on some coaching responsibilities id like to see him stick around till the end of his career which cant be too far away youd think... i know he has his soccerpro business up here so he might want to keep that running too?

fact of life is football is a short term career, and clubs tend to go through stages... its a credit to us that we have been so stable since v1 but now as v3 winds down and v4 approaches we have to come to the realisation that we wont be keeping all our favourites, hell i think Danny V might be off to Europe soon and thatd devastate people too!

For anyone whos seen the movie goal ill leave with a quote from the coach
"the name on the front of the jersey is more important than the name on the back"

P.S: Andre is a true champion of the Mariners, whatever happens
