This is brilliant for the A-League

Congrats to sydney !

He is still fit, our defenders better be up for the best challenge that may ever face !

If Sydney continue to play the diamond I would imagine Piero will play at AM.

Tom Smithies from the Daily Telegrah will be heading out to the airport to greet DP when he arrives in Australia, with a few firecrackers in his pocket, 5 photographers and 50 riot police with batons and capsicum spray.

Alessandro Del Piero signs on the dotted line for Sydney FC

ITALIAN superstar Alessandro Del Piero has officially put pen to paper to play with Sydney FC in this season's A-League, in a deal reported to be worth $2 million for a single season.

According to media outlet Sky Italia and, as revealed by The Australian this morning, the former Italian and Juventus striker signed the lucrative contract just hours ago, making him the highest-paid footballer in Australian sporting history.

The announcement will be made at the lavish Principi Hotel in Turin at 9.30pm tonight (AEST).

Del Piero is the biggest signing in the history of the A-League and his capture will ensure Sydney FC will have almost full houses for all its home games this season, while membership sales are expected to rise by as much as 40 per cent.

Sydney....full houses???????......are you sure????

Great signing, without a doubt but if they ain't winning ....there won't sell out.

Personally I think Ian Crook with sort them right out but I hope it takes a couple of years before they get it back together.

I have to admit to having a bit of a man crush on ADP. Seriously contemplating trying to get tickets to the Choppers v Scum game (my worst nightmare).

At $38,461.54 a week he better be bloody put bums on seats & play 100% every week.
My tip he`ll get a long term injury or cop a few simulation suspensions (yeah right).

He certainly deserves to be treated with respect.
One man doesn't make a team though.
Hopefully he receives good service from the other smurfs so we can enjoy some nice football.
Can't wait to hear his comments on the A League.

Two reasons:-
1) Everyone wants to play on the Central Coast,no one wants to play in Newcastle
2) Recovery session at "Birdie Beach" :eek:verhead:

IT was the moment that all the excitement and conjecture turned into hard graft and Alessandro Del Piero learnt the unique challenges that training in Australia can bring.

Under appropriately blue skies, Del Piero spent his first training session with Sydny FC allowing the A-League's biggest signing to get down to what he does best.

But it was a warm shift at work for all the players with Del Piero hardly alone in reaching gratefully for the water bottle after an hour of keep-ball sessions under head coach Ian Crook.

About 50 media representatives descended on training at Allianz Stadium to have their first look at the Italian superstar being put through his paces.

Del Piero looked fit and eager and keen to play his part, but it was confirmed this morning that he will not make his debut for Sydney on Saturday when their trial game with Newcastle scheduled for Budgewoi was cancelled.

Instead Sydney are close to finalising a friendly behind closed doors against the Mariners next week in which Crook is keen to involve Del Piero to some degree.

Del Piero will make his first public appearance at this Sunday's jersey presentation.

Maybe we can introduce him to Monty! If the wind can knock him over just imagine what a hard hitter like Monty can accomplish!
