ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

A League to move from Summer

So Bozza gets on his soap box , rightly so in this case, about Player welfare and shifting the whole comp to winter , he also stated that at this point in time , it’s not Fox controlling kick off and boz also blames the officials for the 36 deg game starts....Laurie Mc said they had a drink break every 15 mins in Scumcastle yesterday so it was fine ....(not sure about that ex fearless leader).....
Now to moving the whole comp lock stock and etc etc ....is their enough grounds of suitable quality to handle HAL, NRL, AFL and Rugby union, there is no doubt that in some cases, two games of various codes will be played on the currently used grounds every weekend for the whole season ...will the pitches hold up?, will crowd numbers hold up ?, given current pricing , families won’t be able to go to ,say, a NRL and a HAL game in the same weekend....sure the NSL co existed with the Winfield cup back in the day but there was no AFL in Sydney or Brisbane for a large percentage of that time ....it’s gonna be a conundrum alrighty

Far more plausible having sensible scheduling and maybe a Thursday night game if necessary. Look at today, why was that at 4pm? Could have been a disaster for heat we just got lucky with weather changing. Winter doesn’t make sense, it would kill the comp IMO.

A cold winters night on Brisbane water is a tougher sell than a few beers on a summer evening if you want to get casuals along. Same with kids minus the beer of course.

Also, winter in Melbourne is just nasty.
I know other codes manage fine in winter, but I reckon it absolutely would hurt us.

And cold winter nights with the icy wind off the water at Gosford just isn't anywhere near as appealing as the palm trees on a balmy evening with a late sunset

Lack of suitable stadiums will mean that there won't be a move to winter. However. Later games look to be the way we will go.

Starting the season earlier in September, after many grounds become available, with games kicking off after 6pm. Two games on Friday, Saturday & Sunday.

A break with an alternate 'BBL' style shortened time comp from mid December through end of January should be considered using extended squads may need to be considered.

You don’t even need to go that extreme. It’s not the full duration of the comp that’s problematic it’s more the summer rounds say round 10-22 that need to be focused on. Two of those rounds could be spaced out with games most days between 24/12 and 10/1.
For the other 10 smart fixtures particularly around Perth and Nix scheduling, a Thursday/Monday night game to accommodate the extra game coming next season and IMO it’s doable.
