I've been thinking about City (don't give a sh*t about them really but...)
Like most I guess, I don't agree with the GF sale. I presume our players doesn't either. Danny said as much on The Project on Friday when they had on the captains and the 'seat. But the boycott not of the APL but the players they claim to support no doubt did immeasurable damage to City's performance in front if us, being our boys 12th (or 13th, 14th) man. But there had an arrogance about City's greatness that made the fans expect the could get together in Melbourne to watch the game and then fete their team at Tullamarine on Sunday.
There were half a dozen light blue shirts marching, chanting past the Crown about 6:30pm chanting something about being the greatest team... (aged well).
I was thinking the scale of the demolition would make it impossible for people to asterix the result. Would we have won at AAMI? We'll never know. If we played like we did, most probably - but would City have stood up with some actual support? One thing I do know 100% is we would have had multiple times more support down there than City did at Parramatta (maybe even a majority there too), loud and proud making a difference. I think in 2011 there was at 2-3,000 (including those who has since mercifully been abducted by aliens and mind-probed with selective memory ablation) of us and I'm sure we made a difference to the team to achieve a F/T and E/T draw against an undeniably great side, at home, heaving with 20 times more support (* including bandwagoners and theatre-goers).
Predictably, their fans are imploding about APL and CFG and turning against a lot of their squad and set-up over the humiliation. But their decision to hurt Danny Townsend hurt their team and themselves much, much more.
