Central Coast Mariners Squad 2021/22

I'd heard nothing either way beyond rumour on the Ollie situation...but yesterday got some pretty solid confirmation that what's being said by the likes of FFC Mariner and Luke is accurate.

Big $$ contract asked for (not sure if accurate, heard asking in the range of $500k) but the club needs to upgrade some of the youth if we want to hold onto them. Ollie playing hardball and the club and coaches not taking it.

If it is as true as it's firming up to look it's a damn shame. Local hero and all but no one is bigger than the club. Ollie is totally worth big money but should know we just can't do it. See out your contract and look for a bigger payday elsewhere if you have to, but refusing to play or pushing yourself out of being an option is simply not cool.
If true then off to the cows with him to join the rest of the money grabbers.

I could see he needs a big deal to end his career on, CCM were never gonna be it. Unfortunately for him the team has performed well without him. Probably been given some poor advice, holding an employer to ransom is not a good look.

On one hand yeah it’s on CCM for writing the option into the contract but on the other a LOT has happened in the world since it was offered so maybe do the decent thing and waive the extension and go where the money takes you next season if you don’t like the revised offer. You’d have to think that means he either doesn’t think he will get an equivalent elsewhere or if he does it’ll be in a less desirable location (here or abroad, oil leagues anyone?).

I saw the fan club some referred to out in force on FB yesterday. I don’t think the average fan cares too much if we play like that, only if we capitulate like in the Sydney game does the question get traction,

I think a lot of those fans of his are multis run by his inner circle

It was a coincidence we signed him two years ago after he started training with the team to keep us his fitness when the whole Covid thingy started. Not as if the Club enticed him back to Oz and promised the world. Suspect he wants to stay on the coast and not up root his family one more time for a year or two. I seen him promoting a gym and wonder if he has invested in it for after football, probably another reason for not wanting to leave the coast. Not a nice situation but the team has clearly moved on.

I’d put $20 on WSW, SFC need a revamp so he will not fit their rebuild IMO.
You don't have Rodwell and Boz in a side. What he's looking for money wise isn't a bench player at WSW. unless they're prepared to pay it mind you which they probably are.

Why would either club want a 34yo who demands to tell the coach how he should play?
Yes. It's telling that we are in some good form since he's sat. Plus, like many have said here, our best midfielder is now released to play his spot because he's not in the team. We'll probably lose him because of it too.

Lol, WSW don’t have a culture
Sydney FC tried to buy our culture as did Macarthur but culture goes beyond players.
It`s deeply ingrained in our fabric of being,
it`s going to the stadium,
it`s Bay16,
it`s Marvin,
it`s the Canon,
it`s Masterfoods and the sauce bottles,
it`s "No-one rates us but we don`t care"
it`s going to Newcastle and outsinging the Squadrants
it`s the tears and laughter and wearing the shirt....
and so much more

I may have missed one or two.
I've jst reread some of the previous seasons' squad threads.

We have to do a bit about retaining players the players we want - but reading that list is a lot less depressing than it has been in previous years.

This was our squad 4 years ago

Central Coast Mariners: 1.Ben KENNEDY, 4.Jake McGING, 5.Antony GOLEC, 6.Tom HIARIEJ, 7.Andrew HOOLE, 10.Danny De SILVA, 11.Connor PAIN, 12.Trent BUHAGIAR, 14.Adam BERRY, 15.Alan BARO (c), 20.Adam PEARCE, 21.Kye ROWLES, 22.Jacob MELLING, 23.Wout BRAMA

That wasn’t a bad list of players. You put a decent keeper in there and it was a top six side. We were also choked by a turgid, non attacking brand of Okon ball.

If you want depression bring up the starting team we lost 8-2 to Wellington with.

Who would you have back from that squad? Rowles, Pain (always worked hard even in our shit seasons), Hiariej when fit and Brama when not snapping legs! Maybe Golec.

I still cringe when i hear the name McGing, god he was shite. Some of our fans used to love him i never got it, thought he was a massive liability. I don't know how he's still got a gig in the A league.
