And there I was thinking Clisby has been one of our more consistent performers this season.Nigro is limited but his very good cross today gave Matty the chance to score.

We have 2 absolutely terrible fullbacks and their replacements arent any better (quite possibly worse). With our spend (we pocketed the Ziggy savings too dont forget) we cant really expect much more.
Wasting whatever we have paid Janota hasnt helped.
Anywhere in the 6 is a massive achievement with probably the 2nd weakest squad in the comp
Also, never complain about an away point
Dunno what games your watching our Fullbacks and Birraz are why we're second at the moment, and hall and Miller (a true fullback) have been sound in position, our weaknesses come through the wingbacks

Aaaaand, can someone at the club please please torch that bloody grey kit instead of washing it, as we still haven’t won a sodding game in it.
I think it's now 4 games, we've had more luck beating Brisbane, than wearing that kit.

Pedantry warning.
The fullbacks you are talking about (Rowles and Tongyic) are traditionally referred to as centre halves and in more modern times as centre backs.
Our fullbacks, Clisby and Nigro play more like wingbacks. I am not to sure where one ends, fullbacks, and the other begins, wingbacks, probably when you play 5 at the back like WSW.

Haven’t caught up on the thread, just finished watching the game. The mentality and allowing Victory back in to the game by knocking it around like a training drill in the first half is inexcusable. I said it early and probably across multiple threads - they are a team you pin down and keep the foot on their neck. It’s not something new or radical it works against them. Getting one and backing off gives them an opening they shouldn’t have had.

Dropped 4 points against the strugglers now and if we miss finals that’s why.

Frustrating but we were the better side. TBH all we need to do is practice the basics....like....shooting, slide rule passing and heading the ball.

Way too much passing out to the wings from around the top of the box today and not nearly direct enough when it was on. Really need to have players with the mindset of taking a risk or having a shot rather than passing the buck.

I have to wonder if that’s why Clisby seems ineffective going forward at times, we don’t have something on so knock it out and expect him to find something.

Part of me tells me we should be so happy with how we have gone this season, leading the league for months, finding immense talent in Kuol, Matty turning back the clock, Ollie coming home and leading the team out of the abyss of the last few years.

But another part of me is thinking, this form slide is getting really worrying and if it continues and results dont go our way we could end up down in 8th or 9th and it would just feel like a massive massive waste of a season. I am trying to be a glass half full but after the start we had and the trajectory we are on it just feels like it could be a such a waste to the start we had. I better bloody be wrong though!

Well, we got pretty much got what we deserved there, Staj has become too reliant on 11 players and as a consequence, the supporting cast has been too starved of opportunities to really play any effective part in games like this.

Can't argue with that imo. He's also clearly had too much belief in our "performances" we haven't come close to a ninety minute performance in months and have won one in nine.

Yes we failed to "take our chances" yet again. But we were slow, sloppy and poor far too many times and could not have complained if a useless Victory rolled us.. It wasn't just Victory who lacked intensity - our own lethargy just looked ok in comparison. All they had to do was "run a bit" and that was enough to see jus start to fall apart. I was utterly miserable watching us play tonight. Victory are rubbish but we now have to go down a goal or lose a man to get out of fifth gear. Yet AGAIN, we were tentative as hell in the first half even though Victory were just lazing about and there for the taking. I lost track of the number of times we had acres of space to run into and would just pass sideways or back instead.

We were far better with ten men last game. Total failure to release Kuol who was looking for something to run onto all game. Nigro great first cross but after that in attack, sweet Jesus.

Win or lose at the start of the season I really didn't care because I could see the fire was back. We looked so hungry and competed so hard, made me proud to be a Mariner again. But that was just too slow and insipid for me. They should be collapsing at the end of that game. Everything to play for. But at full time you can see they've played within them selves and are simply not leaving it all on the pitch.

Take out our fight and we're just a lower half table side at best. Very sad to see this season falling apart and Staj who initially had done wonders proving too stubborn to call out our obvious drop in intensity and too conservative to have been playing the players who were initially a big part of why he was top of the table.

Someone tell me what the "game plan" was tonight? Just more of the same please wasn't it? If Victory had had the sense to close our fullbacks down and swamp Olly more as every other team who's figured us out has we would have lost for sure.

Absolute rubbish, worst game I’ve watched for a long time and if I was a neutral I would have changed the channel. It looked like last against second last it was that dire. The bubble has burst and we will be very lucky to make the six as plenty of teams have games on us and are hitting their stride. I’m now adjusting my expectations to glad we didn’t get the spoon and if by some miracle we start winning again then maybe finals.

Can not believe we have drawn twice with the worst Victory team in their history, just embarrassing and we don’t deserve 2nd spot but we will not be there for long. Shame the good feelings couldn’t last all season.
Thoroughly agree.

How anyone can see that performance and result yesterday as anything but an abject failure is somewhat alarming. Yes, I get that compared to recent seasons this campaign has been a comparative success but it is beginning to feel like some folks (including the players) think it’s ok to fall back into some kind of mediocrity.

No, no and a thousand times no! Having done so well in the first half of the season, now is not the time to say ‘oh well, we gave it a good crack’ no, now is the time to say, ‘let’s push as hard as we can and see where it takes us’.

Personally I would rather not have to go through the hope of a good league position and finals football, only to see my team limp into the top six and exit the finals with a whimper. Bugger that, the boys need to put their heads down and work as hard as they possibly can, to get them and us fans believing that this season wasn’t just a case of a statistical anomaly.

COYY!

Across the board, first touches are shite - 95% bounce away from the player. They look like a team that only touch a ball at official training.
Superstars don't practice the basics.
Urena and Janota are the exceptions.

1000% agree, as soon as I seen them in the grey kit I new it was going to be a bad day. We should never go grey ever again after this season.
