I think it’s obvious how important Stens is in competing in the midfield. Even though Janota did not do poorly, we clearly missed that. I also agree with Allreet and think we’d be well served by having Nizzy start. For mine he’s a lock against tricky attacking players. He has such great acceleration that in tight places he can not only handle their dribbling but nick the ball as well off them. And his work rate is immense. Seems more important than Janotas silky on the ball skills for this game at the very least.

I don’t mind the idea of Kuol starting though I don’t think he will. I would however like to see Bouman get a start over Casella - Besides his crossing ability and intelligence, if he has the pace reported that and his height could be important for us defensively and we missed a bit of physical presence with Stens out last game - so might be better balanced.

I think with Kuol starting Staj is being careful. Pretty sure in the two games he started he had yellows very early in the game so he becomes a liability and as everyone says he is still raw. Less chance of a yellow when he is a sub and look at the impact he has been generating. Can not help but think Staj may feel he could be a real weapon against a tiring Glory and their defence which isn't as strong as previous years. Seems Reddy's career may be over as Velaphi has started the last few games.

I don't see many changes other than how to cover Stens, why would he start mixing it up too much. I don't mind Nizzy coming on in the second half as he also causing the opposition a lot of problems. Would like to see him being a regular starter but as a team we are playing so well and I wouldn't want to see that disrupted unnecessarily.

Glory have been good but then have lost a few I thought they should have done better in so they are still hot and cold like a lot of teams at the moment due to schedules and it is still pretty early in the season.

I will be interested to see how the team responds mentally to the Reds game. No matter the result we need a good positive performance in this one.

Anyone have any word on jankovic? Is he just simply struggling to adapt or any fitness issues? Or just simply not up to the standard Staj thought he’d be?
Sort of gone under the radar with how well we’ve been going.

I’d argue we were clearly playing better as a team defensively before Nisbet was injured and he was starting. And in the last two games have been more open.

So I don’t think with Stens our it’s a case of if it’s not broke don’t fix it.

Anyway clearly the forum seems split over who Staj should be giving the nod to between Niz and Janota.

For mine prior his injury he was clearly one of our top four players each game and he never did anything performance wise to warrant being dropped. Thems the breaks. But I feel he at least deserves another start to get a chance to prove why he has to be a starting player.

I believe he was out of action for a while (unless that was Janota?) so with us not fully utilising our visa allocation I suspect he was brought over as a prospect for the future. Bring him in, get the fitness up and work with him and see if we want to make it a multi year deal.

Your kidding aren't you Turbo? He was signed the day after Jalota and before Urena. He has been here since before NYE. He has been training, though he has missed some sessions with niggling injuries. He has played in a couple of the Academy games and is way off the standard. He was signed as a payoff for Anton who sent OFK Beograd two of young players (who Monty did not want but had Euro passports) and we got Jankovic in return. Get rid of him in the next transfer window and upgrade Ballard or Smylie. That way we can start developing young players into genuine first team players and provide them with a pathway to decent clubs overseas and improve our profile and make the club more attractive for quality imports. I must add that we have done better with our recruitment this year than in the past with no obvious stuff-ups except for Jankovics, but happy to be proved wrong.

Jankovic is young, and I believe that the idea is he is a visa / youth player to be developed a bit hoping it'll pay off. I don't think he's costing much and we still have 2 visa spots up the sleeve

You're adding context which is great but not really disagreeing with my overall sentiment. Yes he should be in serviceable shape by now even if he had a long lay off so it appears the gamble or extended trial is showing he isnt of the standard needed as your observations suggest.

I don't mind taking a punt with spare visa spots we aren't going to use, in fact I've suggested it before. He hasn't been forced in to the line up at someone's expense and would be a minimal outlay, maybe we pickup a gem here or there even if some are duds. No harm done if there's minimal outlay and their place isn't guaranteed.

You're right and I'm not disagreeing with the overall sentiment - I do disagree with hanging on to an underperforming import. What I don't like is that he is costing the club twice what we are paying Kuol, Casella or Hatch and 10 times what we are paying Smylie, Ballard and Khoury. While it is not costing a fortune in the overall scheme of things, and Staj has shown a willingness to upgrade youth contracts (even though a few have been a bit premature like Silvera or reactionary like Miller) it doesn't sit well with some of the younger players to see a 23 year old who came from a lower level of football overseas being paid a full wage and not even be able to make a 20 man squad when we only have 20 contracted players.

I can agree with that, hopefully we can see the sense in upgrading those players and I'm sure we will especially for the ones who will be on others radar.

I can see why those players would feel hard done by. I can also see that it must be hard for Jankovic too. Taking a deal in another country and not having what it takes. Knowing that people are looking at you like you shouldn't be there. Those young boys need to take it for what it is and play/train to their best and treat Jankovic like any other team mate. (Which I'm sure they are, doesn't seem like the club this year that would let that behaviour go) It could be them in that position when they move on from this club.

that’s definitely a concern that some of the young lads possibly getting annoyed jankovic has taken a contract away from one of them.
These kids can certainly play and the club has to be so careful and spot on with the select few we’ll be able to keep. There’s going to be real heart break when push comes to shove and these lads reach that horrifically stupid age limit.
I often wonder would it be worth the massive gamble of a complete clear out at seasons end and keep only the 5-6 senior players (Ollie, Birra, Ruon, kye, Janota etc) and promote each of this golden youth bunch.

At the same time the club has taken a massive gamble and shown great faith in our youth boys both signing and playing as many as they did. As good as our boys have been Staj deserves the full credit for actually making it work so crazily well.
I doubt any other club has promoted as many youth as we have, no one could expect much more of them in that regard

I'd agree. Niz does deserve the start but I guess Staj is trying to get Janota up to speed with our game and the requirements of it. Its a credit to Niz that we are considering him as a start over one of our imports.

On the Pod they spoke about Jankovic being a long term project. I will get down to training this week and check them out.
