I want to see him coach for next season. A lot will depend on recruitment. If we can find a decent spine then it will be fair to judge on results.
You cannot blame a coach for players' inability to pass or being unable to control a football at this level.
I doubt that there is a another coach in the country who could get results with this squad.
How we recruit in the off season will determine not only his, but the Club's future.

From what we've seen so far I'm not sure. I don't agree with all of his line ups and choices but admit I dont have the information and insights he has, as well as the obvious issue of having to try to make something work with the team he has. What I do know is the squad hasn't given him a lot of chance to succeed and many of the problematic players were inherited not his recruits. We've got some of our more expensive players not delivering what we need from them and thats a big issue when we've filled around them with less experienced or journeymen.

My biggest criticism is the lack of a cohesive attacking shape but that has persisted under multiple managers - so is it all of their fault or is there something else we would be better served in addressing? We havent had that creative play maker to pull the strings and we desperately need to address it. I suspect they were hoping it could be DDS but that hasnt worked out. He gets through a lot of work but he isnt a ninko, castro, davilla, etc..

Are you going to answer my question?
My point was that if a new manager came in it could give the all players a new lease of life and the the players not playing the chance to prove themselves to a new manager with a fresh start. Also that I have lost faith in staj.
Staj gets paid for results on the park,he took the job knowing the players he would be working with so he is then accountable to make the team better.Lets not forget he has signed 18 players of his own so it’s no just a poor inherited squad he can’t get results with.Tony warmsley,Phil Moss,Paul Okon and Mike Mulvey all got sacked for less and none of them have had another job in football. It will be interesting to see which level of team if any pick Staj up after seeing his managerial performance with us.

Staj has a lot of young players who will be all the better for having a full season behind them.
We need to be patient with him and let him get the squad to play for each other and build a team spirit.
This season is f**ked just like the last few.
Just give him more time, what`s the worst he could do, another spoon?

The problem with that thinking is that most of the ones off contract will either not be here (both their choice and ours). Secondly - with 3 games to go including 2 in the next 5 days when would those players off contract players get a chance with a new manager.

My argument was mostly on the fresh start thing, as I said there looked to be quite a few fresh starts on Saturday and it wasn’t a product of a quick turn around between matches or many injuries.

I get that you’ve lost faith in Staj and that’s fair enough, I’m underwhelmed with our performance too. Didn’t expect a lot but 8-9 would have been a step in the right direction and a platform to build from.

By sticking by Staj I’m hoping we can steady the ship. A number of his pickups have been decent development prospects. 3 of his 4 Visa players were decent although I don’t agree with how Kim was deployed. Unfortunate that Duric ended up carrying an injury that robbed us of the player everyone had their eye on early.

Other teams could have dealt with the hang overs from last season by spending a bit more but we didn’t have that luxury especially after MC and Mulvey were burned by McCormack being a dud. Between Simon, Mcglinchey, Jair and Oar thats a decent chunk of our spending and 2 Visa spaces making limited appearances and/or impact. The club needs to get this stuff right because we’re already fighting with a hand behind our back due to budget. Can’t afford to spend it poorly,

Would you wish that on the bloke right now? Seems to be doing good work with the youth team. Same with people saying to get Hutch over here. There's a decent chance we put a club legend through the grinder and spit them out with a terrible record which could set them back years. Unless you're going to support them better than we have managers in recent years you're setting them up to fail.
Thats a great point - Monty would make us fit and hard to beat but he would still have too much dead wood. Better to wait until the middle of next season when Staj continues to fail and gets the flick.
Hutch was pretty clear as to why he wont come back to CCM when we saw him in the leagues club.
He loves the club, bleeds yellow but the way he was treated really hurt him.

Unfortunately being the head coach the buck stops with him , he signed enough players to say it’s his squad the fact that they look totally dysfunctional when on the park is down to his tactics, game plan , the least he could do is show some encouragement to the team from the side of the park instead Just sitting there motionless, the players show the same effort on the park as he shows for the dugout very little .

Agree with the first phrase - but can't agree with the second. He has built a young squad through necessity - many of who have played a lot together through necessity. Ideally young players are brought in with experience around them. Simon, McGlinchey, De Silva and Oar were all previously signed and would take out a huge chunk of his budget. 3 of then are off contract and he has recruited good young players in the main. His visa choices Kim, Ziggy and Djuric have been decent picks without being outstanding. The other Korean actually looked quite decent and I would have loved to have seen him work out. Instead we were stuck with the Hail Mary of Jair.

This year, depending on cap, ceiling and visa rule changes he will have all 5 that he can fill and a more sizeable chunk of money to spend.

I wonder if there is a toxic core of players who know they are on their last decent contract before park football backons who dont respect him and arent engaged.
Thats not info, purely a guess but when you look at how disinterested some of them have been as they wind down the clock it makes you think.
Teams in any walk of life are funny things and in a workplace you remove the toxic ones ASAP - harder to do if they are contracted.
My issue is I think our tactics dont suit a squad of mainly NPL footballers. However, if the dressing room is shit, he has no chance regardless

And the PFA will have a cry if you tell them to bugger off and train on their own or with the youth team. Really limited in what you can do with them.

It’s the club not the coach. No matter who we get it will be the same. With even less tv $$$ and f-all members left we couldn’t afford an NPL coach. I feel the club is in real danger unless the new A League wins Powerball. I think we need to stick with Staj, at least some good players are coming through. Only positive I’ve got.

Well we could see what our NPL coach (Monty) can do with the remaining players - he will be able to use all of Pearce, Rowles, Miller, Stensness, Nisbet, De Silva, Kuol, Silvera, Ruiz-Diaz for rounds through 4 - 11 (short season) of NPL2. I think you can use 3 overage players as well so that brings in Clisby, Tongyik & Murray.

Staj is not performing he has to go,if someone new came in it might give the players a new lease of life. Also the players he has not been playing or have been deemed not good enough in his opinion(which I don’t think a lot of now tbh)get a clean slate.lets be honest it’s not like he has a great pedigree in football it’s not like we would be sacking Arnie,he’s staj and he has not got what it takes.

Who are you Lewis? I'm smelling an axe to grind??

I dont think anyone with any brains (so, not the prawn sandwich seats) is suggesting Hutcho would be a good choice.

I think your missing the point about Hutch or Monty , they both have seen at first hand how Arnie worked how he found certain types of players and moulded them into the winners they were , they both have that working ethos on trying to build that success that they both had as players , they were taught by the best, the club has spiralled out of control down to the very bottom since Arnie left , the club can’t get any lower than it is now ,the club have absolutely nothing to loose in appointing anyone of them or even both as manager and assistant and see if they can at least tap into that winning mentality that Arnie instilled in players ,there’s absolutely not one person on this forum that can’t honestly say that Alan Stajcic has inspired them into thinking that the Mariners were going to be winners again , and to keep saying he’ll get his own players next season is just excuses a cop out .

We wouldn't even sign NPL players over the break.
Speaking of signing I saw an article today saying WSW were holding off negotiations with Duke and others over uncertainty towards their share of the revised media deal for next season. Could be quite a few players in limbo atm
