Don't be sorry, but you are wrong though ;) Depending on whether we're talking overall impact on the club or 'best' ever if you were to line them up together in a 'Tyson vs Ali' sense...
The list is fine but I think Wee Mac had a bigger impact and created a better lineup than Sterj. Sterj was great for us and without him we mightn't have won the GF, but WeeMac in his first go-around with the club, was immense, for mine.

Musty, Bernie and Rogic were still growing so it's harder to say I think and much as I loved him I think Bernie probably falls off the list unchallenged. I've watched Musty a bit in Superligaen and I find it really hard to separate his current play from how he played for us, especially trying to take into account differences between the league, so I'm OK on there but... If you think of the revelation that was Rogic once he settled in here, and given the difference in the quality of the league, are you sure you wouldn't pick him as a starter over at least one of the others if you had them all on the team sheet?

Gumps number 1 for me.

Bozanic on one flank and Weemac on the other was awesome.

Rogic was great but his loping style was not to my liking I much preferred Perez.

Jedi was great and super effective but limited technically and Tommy P was sublime at time.

I did like Musti alot.

Sterj was good and i never really thought of Bernie as a middy.

That dickead Travis was technically as good as any of them.

I think Oar, DDS, Djuric, Kim and Silvera is the most exciting midfield we have ever had.

COYY.

I’d break it up into types of midfielder.

DM (ie, holder/ball winner/controller) no question Jedi very closely followed by Monty. Kim has potential to join that list if he stays on the park which is doubtful right now. Brama could’ve joined that list had he had better players around him.

CM (ie, box to box) I’d say Gumps takes the cake there. No one else really comes to mind for me right now. Djuric does also excel in this role too.

CAM #10. We’ve been pretty lucky down the years particularly early. Rogic and Perez were my personal favourites. But tommy P was incredible and amongst the reasons I fell in love with going to the stadium back then watching him light it up and then to a lesser extent even Adrian Caceres in his spell. If Djuric continues how he’s started there’s no doubt he’ll be right up there.

When Jedi was here, I always felt his passing accuracy was less than sublime. Everything else was superb. As for his impact on the team, after he left we lost every match for the rest of the year.

Lot of potential in our new midfield.. could imo ‘become’ the best.

But best, or as good, or worse - than our glory days can only be decided once we’re on the other side of this new little era.

Jedinak’ should impact for us was most felt when he left in the January transfer window. We went from top three to crashing out of the finals.

Tis it to early to pick our best ever midfield ....

What combination

Do we play a 4 across the middle in a diamond.

Do we play 2 DM, with 1 AM & 2 wide Mids

Do we play 1 DM, with a diamond in front

Do we play 1 DM, with 2 CM & 2 wingers..

I will go with 1 DM, with 2 CM's, & 2 wings.

The 6, the ball playing mid.... maybe to early to call but either Djuric, Kim

The 8, the box to box, stopping attacks and winning ball ... Jedi

The 10 .... for me its Perez

Wingers or wide mids... left Oar in his current form... right can't make up my mind... learning towards Bernie but not convinced....but also looking at Silvera....

I think this option:

“...2 DM, with 1 AM & 2 wide Mids”

Kim/Stensness as 6, Duric as 8
De Silva 10, Oar and Silvera wide.

I don't know about our best ever, but the club has done well with the midfield. I do think we have one of the best mids in the league at the moment. And a few of the players we have now could well be remembered in the future with the same fondness we look back on Rogic, Jedi etc

Probably not on the same level as Jedi but worth mentioning in this thread. Rostyn Griffiths was such a dominant player for us in his spell here. I think he gets overlooked in these conversations. There is a reason he was a record A-League transfer (I'm pretty sure) when he went off from us to China. I'd be curious to look back and attempt to compare him to Monty, Hutch and Jedi. I think he would stack up quite well.

we do have a good midfield , but in every game i've seen we've played a different style .
4231 442 i don't think there will be anyone one style or formation .
we'll forever have 2013 . but i don't need to compare ,2019 is good and getting better.
we are just one player from being . ..... the little team that could

Front three with a false nine and constantly rotating wings was money.

Not sustainable over 90mins as we saw but is an excellent game plan to have, with a quality 9 to swap it up against some opponents or switch tactics we are looking good.

Jair less important now.

I get what you’re saying, but I actually think Jair and Muzz could slot really well into how we set up tonight.

Muzz is selfless, works hard, links well and I still believe is a quality finisher - unfortunately he does not have the pace, strength of feet required to truly distinguish himself at HAL level as a lone striker from what I’ve seen so far. But to a 433 like this... he’s much better suited and could be great for us I think. And Jair has much better feet than our other strikers and also knows how to finish and pass.

Our biggest issue tonight was that once our forwards tired we struggled for field position and possession which was exacerbate by having no real nine to hold up the play and help get us up the park. Without DDS we could not keep the ball. I think Nizzy. actually would have helped with this. But so could Jair, so I still think he could be a vital asset. We’re still very light on attacking depth. Weemac does not work for how we’re playing at this pace anymore. And Matty... while great for tonight’s situation is ill suited to how we have proven we should set up.

Michael called it a while back (or was it insertnamehere?) sorry I’ve forgotten. But anyway point was that our key talent was probably better suited to a 433 with a false nine. That was proven tonight imo. And by keeping Matty on the park, has it looks meant we have not been using our most effective formation.

Also big shout out to all our defensive players too, forced so many turn overs and really gave our forwards a constant supply of ball in the first half. They also made some good runs and Stensness and Duric in particular helped start many a foray.

I know it’s been said a hundred times already. But f**k me, What a great performance that was.
