Expiring contracts (10)

Necesvski Can keep for minimum wage as a back up although i'd sign Bray as the back up.
Galloway Keep
Neill Cut
Faty Cut
Poscoliero Keep
Adelson Keep
Tavares Cut
Montgomery Keep
Ferriera I'd keep on a reduced contract as a bench weapon. He is unlikely to accept that so thanks Fab and good luck.
Appiah-Kubi Tough one. He probably deserves another year but we can do far better. Sadly i'd cut him.

Some interesting comments by PO last night before and after the game, apparently going OS for a few weeks to look at Visa players. He also commented it's quite hard keeping and attracting players to CCM. I'm not all that surprised given our track record with Moss and TW. By all accounts all Visa spots will be available, suspect we will not pick up too many HAL players other than those who are cheap and might be worth a gamble. Next season will interesting given the amount of ex players we will be coming up against week in week out. PO's true test has just started.

I've been looking forward to a rebuild and happy so many are out of contract so that Okon can build fresh and have a full pre-season to mold.

That said it I thought we'd have a few more of our top/experienced players to build around but it's looking like we'll have none of them. The rest are kids, albeit some great prospects amongst them. Pain maybe the exception (being older more experienced I mean).

Shame about Roy but we've been expecting this for a while. If he goes to the scum I hope it's for good pay because it won't be for success or a golden boot.

So, sad (if Monty and Fab go) but exciting times ahead

This has been a problem but I'm hopeful that having the ability to build nearly a whole new squad will be attractive to some players now. It's not like he'll be asking them to come and stunt their career in an under-experienced and underwhelming team now, but be a part of creating a successful new team. I hope.

Need a new spine which is where we were weak anyway and a RW
7 of the 11 spots to fill in starting side

GK
CB
3 mids
RW
Striker

Can get via visa players and two good Aussies
Then pick up some bench depth when a couple of decent players find them selves unwanted

Gk
Storm Rose CB Galloway
DM
Mid
AM
RW Striker Pain

Bench
Bingham Ashcroft Berry McGing Trent Pearce

Need 7 strong 1st teamers IMO to be competitive

We all know one bloke who could play midfield and bleeds blue

I think he's done enough to keep him for another season.

I always struggle a bit with comments like that from coaches and commentators tbh... It feels a bit like a sort of cop out.

That's not to say that it's not hard but i expect is more about salesmanship than about the actual position of the club.
When Austin went to Victory or Wilko to Sydney, the commentators all went on about how players are always going to "gravitate to the big clubs". Tbh I think that's romanticised bullshit in a salary capped league. Looking at the Smurfs in particular, this is the first season in almost a decade that they've looked likely to actually win something - so you wouldn't generally go there for trophies would you?
I can see how a good marquee name might be attractive but beyond that my suspicion is that the domestic players will look to the wallet first.
WSW have been treating player contracts as toilet paper and cleaning out every year so it doesn't even seem like stability is the thing.
If we're looking to land then cheap the obviously it'll be a struggle. But you can't tell me that we wouldn't have a shot with just about any "normal" player if we offered them money to match the competition.
Not only that - in bloody January there was plenty of talk of the potential attraction of playing for Paolo.
For mine this is just the part where Paolo's learning curve gets steep -hopefully he's up for it.

Appiah played his heart out but he is wooden spoon A League

Come on guys time to get a little tough.

He has the touch of an elephant, no left foot but husstles all day long all though has been cramping after 60mins but thats finw when you give everything. He has heart and speed. He is not starting quality and not a great sub, more effective as a starter.

Trent has the sub winger position locked down because he has signed already, even though he's been shit and needs a lot of work he has more potential than Appiah.

We need a starting RW and a local NPL can be 3rd string

I was told that Posco isn't going anywhere and that Fab is close to resigning. Speaking to Monty 2 weeks ago, he said that none of them had been spoken to YET and it was being left till the end of the season.
From the list of off contract, I would...
Necesvski - Keep if we haven't got an A lister coming in. (let in a few but lets be honest, he was hung out to dry by the defence for a large majority of those)
Galloway - KEEP
Neill - BYE, don't let the door hit you on the way out (shame as last season he was promising until the injury)
Faty - Already GONE
Poscoliero - KEEP (but we need a quality CB to train him up)
Adelson - rumour had it the club were trying to get rid in Jan so I don't really know
Tavares - Already GONE
Montgomery - KEEP
Ferriera - Keep on a reduced contract
Appiah-Kubi - Keep as Budgie isn't there yet.

I also am aware that Monty in particular was dropping a few names last year of O?S players from the championship that would be a good fit for us, maybe Paolo has been caught up on that?

. this is the sort of space where the grant/cap starts to factor in calculations ... if we spend up to the cap (or floor :() with some quality signings we can fill out the squad/provide back-up with some lower earning Appiah types

. but if we have a decent jump in the grant we shouldn't need to fill out the squad in such a fashion

We should try and snag Bernie from Sydney. Has been in the bench all year. Can't be helping his future prospects. I'm sure he would want more game time.
He wants to go back to brugge but if he didn't SFC would drop Holosko in a heart beat for Berni. Then they would keep Ninkovic on marquee.
Bernie would be great but sadly feel he wouldn't be interested

Sorry Big Al, I was typing while you posted.

I think his future prospects are that he's wanted at Sydney unfortunately.

Sydney FC are looking to make star winger Bernie Ibini a permanent member of their squad for next season and beyond and are prepared to make an offer to sign him from Club Brugge by June.

The 24-year-old is on loan at the Sky Blues from the Belgian champions and having regained his form and fitness following a horrific injury, Sydney are hopeful of extending his second spell at the club.

All spine for me, and 2 x CB's for me, one's not enough. With 1, if he gets injured ala Faty, then we are back to where we currently are. We can't be competitive with fill in CB's like we have had the last couple of years. 2 is a must.
