ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Mariners V AU Rd 7

Don't know why, just feel we are going to win... was it the come back in Cup, or since the decision to allow Mane to return to Europe we seem to be moving better off the ball ... maybe its time for AU to have an off day.

Just something in my water is saying we are going to win...

We'll be there! I hope there is at least the 10K + crowd the club is aiming for. If there is it should be noisy and enjoyable.
The downer is the weather forecast is very hot at 41 degs. with a possible shower developing. Uncomfortable for fans and players alike. It's going to be roasting in the Eastern stand. Might have to bring an extra iced water flask.

Took a tangent, but came from how the ground isn't great on hot/wet days, and Sunday's game against Adelaide is set to be played in extreme heat.

I thought this thread was about us vs ADU o_O
Yeah, sorry, we did get carried away. The BOM has reduced the max. temp. on Sunday to 40 degs. Probably have dropped to 30-32 degs. by 4.30pm. But still kettle hot. Tough for fans on the Eastern side and for players too. Anyway if I find any mor info on what actually happened during construction I'll post it here with brevity.

As far as the game goes.......i hope we pick the strongest possible side this week. I'd like to see Tricky start over Sim, he's playing so well and scores goals, great at set pieces, strong mentally. Even if he plays out of position out wide i want to see if it can work. Storm has pace and can overlap with Tricky covering.
Defence will be a hard one with Storm back, Neill playing so well. We need some height and experience back there so i would go with Boz and Pos. I'd like to see this but it will be wrong by 2 or 3 positions, i can see Rosey staying at CB and Sim starting.

...........................EverReddy..............................
Storm............Pos...............Boz..................Neill
........................Hutch........Monty......................
......Tricky.............Caceres..................Fitzy........
..............................Dukey...................................

Subs : Nash,Rosey,Cernak,Vernes, Sim.

I wonder if we will play 2 up front, or simon @ 10 when simon returns. Would be good to have 2 mad c**ts on the terror mission ripping into defences.

Also does anyone think Neill could play further up the field?

I say rest Hutcho, Posco and Neill. They've all played a lot of minutes these past two weeks.

I reckon Poscoliero & Neill should play. They should have a high work rate to "blood them" in HAL and to really see if they can cut it under top level pressures. Even if they are off the bench. Hutch? Well, that'll be a decision between coach and player as to whether the "old man" needs a rest. ;)

A few people on here if Hutch is rested:

Nah don't rest players. We are starting to get some consistency and players are starting to get. I would only rest players if their energy levels are really down. You have to take into account the team hasn't been doing regular training during the week because of recovery. So yes they are playing extra games but they are training less. The boys seem happy with this as they would rather play a game then train.

Unless injured all the boys will be up to play.

Wow....it's like you are infatuated with Hutcho regardless of how badly he plays sometimes.

Wow...it's like you have Hutcho doona covers that are probably very very sticky.

To enter an observation here:

I think what tends to happen in this particular argument is this.
a) Hutch plays games and has on games and off games like many players. being captain it's true he may get a little more leeway for his poorer games than others might.

b) sometimes due to the tactical role he HAS to play in certain games he looks like he's had a poor game when in truth he's had a very good game* (see below)

c) resulting in people seeing him as having a disproportionate number of poor performances when in reality it's a perception and not a reality thing

d) Hutch cops a hard wrap for doing the dirty work and Dibo tries to put the perception right, then it's framed as being Hutch-biased

* on Hutch's role. in a number of games, especially against certain opposition or when we're playing in a particular way, it is Hutch's specific tactical role to 'steady the ship'. he recovers or receives the ball with the team out of shape and decides whether to attack or stall. attacking out of shape could lead to a wasted attack or lead to a turnover and goal.

keep in mind our coaches of the past four years have had one doctrine - structure and shape before all else!

this is where his side or backward passes occur. if the team isn't in shape it's Hutch's job, and I'd put a lot of money on it being DRILLED into him by the coach, that he is to hold and pass in a way to allow the team to recover its famous Mariners discipline in shape.
he does this, steadies the ship before the next attack, but has to pass sideways or backwards to do so (you see him put out his hands to the players in front when he does so telling them to get into position). to the Joe in the crowd it looks like this "we're not on top of the game and there goes Hutch passing the ball backwards or sideways AGAIN" then he gets reviewed poorly for playing negatively.
in a LOT of these games it was his specific job to do that and he's done it quite well with no credit for it (apart from Dibo who has recognised it)

if you don't like Hutch's role in the team take it up with the coach - but be prepared to have finishing in the top 2 or 3, 4 years in a row, a championship and a premiership thrown back in your face.

please re-read points a) - d)
