I was at the Suncorp game for the WC Qualifier. The drainage was nothing short of miraculous. Definitely the role model for ground drainage right there.

Pity the security there are such c**ts. :p

Parra, Skilled, & Suncorp all use the system in Dru's link.

Not sure what sort of investment is involved to have this retrofitted, but we've certainly seen it proven on at least 3 occasions now.

With the HAL & FFA striving to produce a more professional-looking league, it seems ridiculous in this age of technology for systems of this or similar quality to not be mandatory at all HAL venues.

Would be nice floss, but someone has to pay.
I can understand why the FFA wants to look more professional with good drainage, btw. It's to prevent all those highly professional plastic stacking chairs used for each clubs bench from floating away, isn't it?

Now it has worked at Skilled again with The Gold Coast receiving 400mm of rain in a 24 hour period leading up to last night's game.

A "possible reason" for the water not draining away is that the drains were below the water level at the water front and with the force of the incoming king tide this did not allow natural drainage. and if this is the scenario  a simple (ad hoc ) solution would be to attach a high volume pump to the drains and send the water over edge of the water front.

The original stadium designs would not have been removed from the draftsman's board and had a hope of approval by engineers without thorough consideration given to each and every level, including drainage during tidal variations. Worse case scenario (like the one on one hundred year flood level for homes) is what is expected to gain approval.
Two things to think about, keeping in mind the very short distance to the waterfront....If the surface drainage in that short distance was effected by tides, there would also be a problem with salt water contamination through back up. If the drainage on the BT surface was effected by tidal levels, all the surrounding areas on a similar or lower level, adjacent to and in the vicinity of BT, or anywhere else in the inner city for that matter, would also have the same drainage problem. Including the roadways, car parks ect.

you've seen the pretty regular flooding in the lower parts of central gosford every time there's a deluge I presume?

At high tide, low tide or both? That was the subject of my comments. And the roads, car parks and areas adjacent to the BT on a similar level to the pitch, during a similar amount of rain to that of Saturday?

There is nothing wrong with BT's drainage that lots and lots of dollars won't cure. If I remember rightly, BT had a reputation as a an excellent draining pitch, once upon a time. I also remember many on here asking long in the past what's gone wrong with it and blaming the dumping of clay based soils and heavy machinery usage for the Krusty Demons shows.

Curious if you live near BT walk over to the waters edge and have a look where the drains are in relation to the playing level. And yes on Saturday when the game was cancelled the Highway was covered with water.

By the way this is just a theory  as I sit in an office that was flooded on Friday from drains backing up 400 mts from BT

Hi guys,

The main reason there was so much surface water is that there was a substantial blackout on Friday afternoon, which resulted in the pump system not working for four hours, and the entire pitch being under a few inches. It was drained by Saturday morning but there was obviously still a lot of water under the surface, meaning drainage of the heavy rain closer to kick off became significantly slower and more difficult.

With regard to delaying, the radar was showing a MASSIVE storm off the coast which was scheduled to hit around 8pm, and more importantly commercially, it was the first game of a double header, meaning Fox couldn't delay, because they were scheduled to go straight to the Adelaide game.

Cheers

Yes thanks Glen. Interesting.

No UPS obviously ... common cost cutting .. although one would think the stadium would have something - perhaps not connected to pumps.

Fox - they really only like it live don't they ... I suppose the numbers would drop and sponsors feel let down.

How's it looking for tonight?

Lightning stuck a power box next to a shopping centre in gosford (200 mts from BT) and they too had no generator back up. We are poor in Gosford hence the Mrdja move.

Ground got mowed at 9am, sun is shining, no surface water, pumps are full speed ahead, we're good to go.

:(

Am in a meeting tonight and won't even be able to watch the game let alone be there. :(
