ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

You can help CCMFans expand!

Hi all, coming into the new year we are looking at expanding our little community here. Established in 2004, we are the longest running CCM Fan Community around. We've seen groups pop up over the years, some sticking around, some fading away.

In recent weeks, we have started using our facebook page more, and have plans of doing even more in 2015 with fan related updates and information, maybe a contest here and there.

Getting the word out on facebook is a great way to get more attention to the site. More fans, more posts, more discussion!

So please, help us expand our community; LIKE and SHARE our facebook page.

Thank you.

I'd like to help ... but this old dinosaur doesn't Facebook, at least, not publicly, it's a private presence, all locked down to the very tight family member group. Sorry. But I can see that this is a very good initiative and I hope that it does achieve the desired outcome. ( I have an anonymous Facebook alias but there's absolutely no point in liking from that and I can't share, I'm anon. remember? Nobody there but me! :p )

No worries! Plenty of people don't have Facebook, and plenty of people don't read the forum.
Hoping that by spreading the word a bit via facebook, that will raise awareness a bit of the forum and the fan community in general.

This forum has 1799 members but how many are regular posters?
Is the number of regular posters climbing or remaining steady?

Nobody has ever asked for stats before... when I've posted them (and other things regarding site design/development) in the past I've actually been told "we don't give a shit, as long as it works!!"... ha!

So anyway, and this may be a bit more than you wanted, but here goes...

This is raw data pulled from our DB, starting with number of people posting per month;

Some Google Analytics for the same period (main graph shows Users per month)
The Users metric shows how many users viewed or interacted with your content within a specific date range.

ccmfans_analytics.jpg

So that makes for some sad reading, really. :(

So basically there was a big drop off at the end of the 2010-11 season, and it never recovered. Not sure exactly how to explain it; the Yellow Army started their Facebook page around the middle of 2010 so can't really say that was too much of a factor (??), but interestingly enough, here was our home page in the 2010-11 season:

ccmfans_dec_2010.jpg

And then the whole of 2011-12 went through looking like this

ccmfans_feb_2012.jpg

So there you go. Probably a little too much information :D
Any questions/comments, fire away.

Fantasic reply! Thanks very much.

2009 - 2011 looks like the time with the most users and then tailed off a bit and remained steady since.
I was hoping to see a gradual increase. Oh well.

What does "bounce rate" mean?
On the blue/green pie chart what does "visitors" mean? Members, Lurkers or all?

ETA
Thanks to google:
Bounce rate = represents the percentage of visitors who enter the site and "bounce" (leave the site) rather than continue viewing other pages.

I think it's a pretty common problem across the internets, people lost interest with forums.

Here's a post (on another forum, funnily enough) in November that has a few links in it and they say "They've been declining since 2010. For pretty much the entire current decade." - http://forums.soompi.com/en/discussion/2025129/the-decline-of-internet-forums

Another one discussing whether forums are dead (again on another forum) ... https://forums.digitalpoint.com/threads/are-forums-dead.2715554/

y-u-not-facebook.png

Anyhoo... there's quite a few discussions around on the topic of forums dying/dead or not.
I never wanted the site to be "just a forum", but a few factors have lead to it being exactly that today.

Bounce Rate is the percentage of single-page sessions (i.e. sessions in which the person left your site from the entrance page without interacting with the page).

Here is an article on bounce rate, funnily enough we are in the "unlikely" category according to this...
http://www.gorocketfuel.com/the-rocket-blog/whats-the-average-bounce-rate-in-google-analytics/

high_and_low_bounce_rates.png

And as far as "visitors", a while ago Google changed up their terminology, and what they used to call visitors they now call "users" - so basically anyone on the site, logged in or not. I guess they didn't update the pie graph!

There's another stat that we cannot quantify and that is the quality of posts. We may have had more people and more posts but I think a lot of the posts were arguments, stupid shit, and basically crap that nobody wanted to read anyway... but still did I guess ;)

The quality is much better now, we have some good discussions going and better quality reviews, just less of it. Of course that's just my opinion, others may disagree.

Thanks once again for your comprehensive reply.

If forums are in decline in general then it is good this one seems to be steady.
I'm sure over the years as the league grows this site will too.

The bounce rate does seem to be good for this site.
How to get unregistered people to join and non posting members to post more regularly is the big question I guess.

Quality wise I think this forum is great. Wide range of opinions, no flaming and almost no arguments.
Hats off to the people who put their time and effort into running it.

imho it's not possible to get the same interaction and participation if you are a twat or if you facepage. Part of the enjoyment of this site is the to-ing and fro-ing between forum members. Topics can be defined, or not. Posts can be on topic or not. Humour, sarcasm can be used or not, and appreciated or not. This place and places like it are *flexible*. Why, you can even be semantic if you wish. ;) Nah, this forum and fora (forums) like it are great places to interact with others of a like mind. After all we can't all get in a room together to have a chat so this is the place for us.
I enjoy coming here. My thanks go to the hard workers who keep the site up, current and moderated. Thanks guys.

Nobody has ever asked for stats before... when I've posted them (and other things regarding site design/development) in the past I've actually been told "we don't give a shit, as long as it works!!"... ha!

So anyway, and this may be a bit more than you wanted, but here goes...

This is raw data pulled from our DB, starting with number of people posting per month;
