ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Winning the 'toilet seat'

What is it about winning the A-League Championship trophy - the aptly named 'toilet seat'?

It seems that every Club that wins it falls through the trophies' hole and become a shite big turd from then on - Sydney FC, Victory in their following year, and now the Scummers. The Scum being the biggest imploders of all, both on and off the field.

Makes me rather happy with the Premiership Plate and runners up in the Grand Final x2!  :vhappy:

Just need to make sure when you win the seat you have won the lid to go with it as well so you don't fall through it the following season!  ;)

Think about it: The winners are labled champions, those players coming off contracts will be able to get more since they are "champions".

They are hot property and some clubs will play enormous amounts of money for them.

So why didnt that happen to your players?

And your owner believes that players are commodities to try to sell for profit and also wont use service contracts - thats why they leave

Melbourne didnt lose anyone important bar fred, who would have needed more money without the championship.

Thats why Melbourne lost all their best players after the V2 season, such as Archie Thompson, Rod Vargas, Michael Theoklitos and Grant Brebner....

Oh wait....

THATS RIGHT, they lost some much bigger stars of the game, like Kristian Sarkies, James Robinson and Adrian Leijer

lol

Hmm, were all of those players off contract bear? I don't think they were.

The facts are our management is terrible. But it is also true that after we won the league, the players that were coming off contract were very much wanted men by the other clubs. it was always going to be hard to retain them. And this season it's also been difficult witht he new teams coming in with fresh checkbooks looking to sign the best players.

We definately could have done MORE to hold on to them though...

This is despite the fact that you had lost the mojirty of them BEFORE you were champions

If we leave aside the obnoxiousness that is the squadron (ask the S Hill mob what they think of them) the fact is that their owner and management are NSL level f**kheads.

The Hunter is arguably one of the cradles of the game in this country, they have a large (sports mad) population and an ok stadium.

The young players coming through are real talents and will be picked up by the other HAL clubs as Con begins to shaft them. At the moment, the Jest are a de facto feeder club for the rest of the league.

Sooner or later, GVE will get a sensible offer from another club (or the FFA) and Con will find some cheap hack to complete f**king the club over properly.

An ownership structure and business model that actually reflects the modern game in Australia and they would v possibly pwn this comp.

Ben Buckley could do worse than try to encourage a consortia with real brains and money to take Con out and rebuild the club along modern lines. Failing that, simply dont renew the 5 year license and put it out to tender.

What would it take for something along those lines to happen?
