ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

What's the issue with dead ball?

Something that's been puzzling me for a while is why, over say 4 years, a total of what 50 players? none of them can make good use of the dead ball?
CCM has been atrocious at penalties since Jedi left, I know, but that's a psychologically challenging task. But corners and free kicks carry nothing like that freight.
How hard can it be for a professional footballer to skilfully kick a stationary ball?
My theory: there isn't much time for it at training, and because of the way this league is set up, there's only weak incentives for hard work on your own.
But I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Last two seasons Tommy H has been carrying a slight hammy injury so after a few games of taking corners & free kicks Okon opted not to have him take them. Mulvey didn’t rate Tom H so obviously didn’t have him take any dead balls but now we have a coach that realises he can take dead balls I think they’ve improved dramatically.

Towards the end of the game Hoole put in an absolute peach of a corner and I was think "where was that all season".

We have lacked a true dead ball specialist since Perez (McCormack's brief poor cameo aside) and it has cost us. They are worth the money you spend on them.

Oooh oooh, I know this one!

We still can't take them.

Like swapping out a sub par keeper, getting a dead ball specialist is one of the simplest, but most vital changea that would drastically improve our general play and pay good dividends across a whole season.

Monty was the funniest corner taker

2 hands up = behind the goal
1 hand = straight to 1st man

Never failed

Really he did two things? I don’t remember that much diversity. I thought he only did high floaters to ‘somewhere’ in the box.

We simple don't spend time practicing dead ball kicks. Maybe they would have WeeMac lob in some corners for 5 mins and the end of training. Only the keepers do.

I'm an idiot savant without the pesky savant bit
What they need is Brad “Chicken”Porter to come in and train the nuftys in how to take a corner properly
