A penis piercing has earned a Melbourne soccer player a red card - and a red face - after he refused to remove the intimate bling and was sent off the field.

Aaron Eccleston, the captain of the Old Hill Wanderers reserves, was marched into a change room by a furious referee during the bizarre incident that left players and spectators gobsmacked.

The referee apparently realised there was more to it when the Eccleston was hit in the groin and left sprawled on the grass in pain.

"He got hit in the privates and I guess he was just checking to see everything was still OK down there," an opposition player said. "But then the ump's spotted it."

A fiery confrontation between the pair was captured on amateur video.

"Don't make it any worse or I will stop the game," the referee declares before ordering the player into the change rooms. The ref walks from the building moments later and pulls out a red card.

"This is ridiculous, a disgrace," one onlooker says. "He's been sent off."

Under VicSoccer rules players are required to remove ear and nose piercings. Eyebrow piercings are required to be taped over but there is no rule for more intimate piercings.

Eccleston, 28, was suspended for at least a week. He declined to comment when contacted by the Herald Sun but posted the video to Twitter.

I remember a game at St.George Stadium where an attacking player slid to save the ball going over the line for a goal kick just as a defender slid into him.

The team scored from it & when they rushed to congratulate their player the front of his shorts were covered in blood.

The studs from the boot of the defender had cut the attackers penis.
He ended up getting 10 stitches & they managed to "save it".

I spoke to the players` father some weeks later & he was actually proud that his son was able to have 10 stitches!!!

Wife charged with torture after allegedly chopping husband's penis off

A US woman has been charged with torture after she allegedly tied her husband to a bed, cut off his penis with a kitchen knife and ground it up in a garbage disposal.

Catherine Kieu, 48, was charged with torture, bodily injury with a knife and aggravated mayhem - a felony that involves depriving a victim of "a limb, organ, or member of his or her body".
Kieu, from California, was accused of tying her sleeping husband to a bed with nylon ropes, pulling down his pants and slicing off his penis, the Orange County District Attorney's Office said in a written statement.

The Garden Grove woman then took the severed penis into the kitchen, threw it into the garbage disposal and turned it on, mutilating the organ, Orange County prosecutors said.
She then called emergency services, they said.

Kieu - who was described in media reports as a real estate broker - was taken into custody at her house on Monday night and was being held without bail. She will next appear in court on July 22.
She faced a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Orange County prosecutors said the incident followed an argument between Kieu and her 60-year-old husband, who has not been identified by authorities, over friends staying at the residence.

Garden Grove police said Kieu, who was initially identified as Catherine Kieu Becker, told officers who responded to her 911 call and found her husband tied to the bed and bleeding from the groin that he "deserved it".
Police also said she may have drugged or poisoned her husband's food to make him sleepy and that the couple was involved in divorce proceedings.

Kieu's husband was taken to the nearby University of California, Irvine Medical Centre following the attack, where he underwent emergency surgery and was in a serious condition.

The husband was in "surprisingly good spirits" after surgery, a police officer told the New York Daily News.
Lieutenant Jeff Nightengale of the Garden Grove Police Department told the newspaper: "Two veteran detectives interviewed him yesterday and were surprised at his demeanour.
"They said he was able to answer questions and was in surprisingly good spirits considering everything he's gone through."

Lieutenant Nightengale said while pieces of the penis were recovered and taken to hospital, he could not comment on whether any part had been reattached.
The incident recalled the infamous 1993 case of John Wayne Bobbitt - who had his penis reattached after a similar event.
Bobbitt had his penis cut off by his wife Lorena, who drove away and threw away the member from a moving car. It was recovered and sewn back on, and Bobbitt subsequently became a porn movie actor on the back of his misfortune.
