ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

The disgrace that is modern football

I still love my club.

I still love the game.

But I hate the unlovable, contorted, over-hyped, over-commercialised, prostituted, sold out monstrosity the game at the highest level has become. Today's Premier League, La Liga, et al are out of control corporations doing more harm to the game than good.

I long for a more innocent time where clubs, players and all were closer to the people. Basically the prostitution of our game is part of the mentality that caused the current economic crisis to begin with- putting money above the best interests of the game and fans.

I wish more people would take a stand. Maybe soon enough football will eat itself, implode and go back-to-basics.

The loss of all that made football great, namely the tribalism and parochialism of it all. The fact that it's become sanitised, sterile, soulless, and detached from ordinary working-class fans. And so much more.

+1

But I also agree with Serious that it ain't going to change unfortunately.

I suppose to you youngsters who have never known it any other way it's hard to compare.

Globalisation pal, it's here to stay.

I can bet that if football did cannibalise itself and go back to basics, that you'd bemoan the loss of the corporate dollar that made football into a worldwide spectacle

Quite honestly I wish the top 10 or 15 European clubs would just f**k off and form their own Super League (no relegation or promotion, just a cosy cartel).

It can have its own TV channel and be wall to wall.

The rest of us can quietly get on with the game as its meant to be.

For more football realism, I recommend When Saturday Comes www.wsc.co.uk

i personally cant see it being sustained at such a level,
even half of what those leagues are financially would be the better way,
i have recently taken criticism from friends about putting the a league above those,
as i see it, support on merit not money or mourihno ( or how ever you spell his name), therefore am a huge fan of the cap and what it has done for the leagues competitiveness, none more so than V5.

A league will never match the money, but can always aim to reach the standard of the other leagues, in time, probly not my life time but id rather what we have now then the crap that happens in europe, where FCs are no longer the family or community clubs (shef wednesday) but billionaires play things.

p.s. love that vid at around th 4:10 point :D

Before Rupert players in the big leagues were on good money anyway.Even players in some of the lesser leagues in europe still earned good money.

Now it's just out of control.

The real enemy was Maggie - her repressive reaction to Hillsborough and the damning Taylor report that followed destroyed football culture (when all was needed was sensible policing).

The report stated that standing accommodation is not intrinsically unsafe, but the government decided that no standing accommodation was to be allowed at all.

This created the opportunity for football to become a consumer product and Rupert swooped.

She probably saw football as a working class sport and therefore needing to be smashed.

Maggie - enemy of the people

There's no doubt some of the old grounds were the pits and a disgrace to the clubs concerned.

But there were many well run clubs with decent stadiums caught up in the aftermath and forced to build new stands etc that they couldn't afford.

That along with the out of control wages (for average players in a lot of cases) sent many clubs to the brink.

In the 80's DUFC had money in the bank and a good home grown team on decent money who could compete at home and abroad. The stadium was ours and paid for.

Now we have a 6 million quid debt, no chance of winning the league or being competitive in Europe. And a team full of foreigners (because they're cheaper) who wouldn't be fit to tie the bootlaces of those before them.

I was there when that bitch Thatcher tried to butter us up by attending the Scottish Cup Final in 1988 and got pelters from the crowd.

We knew what she was about.

It was your lot that voted her in FFC!

I never voted once for the fascist slag.

In a Surrey constituency, that didnt count for much but my hands were clean

Of course we can blame Liverpool and their evil fans for a lot of the mess, but let's not go further.

My heart is in the right place- I care for the game both here and worldwide, and I want nothing more than for the game to grow. Yet I've been slated here for some of my views and ideas.

You do realise that not everyone is going to agree with you all the time right?
